How many devices can connect to one hotspot?

I created a hotspot on my laptop with My WIFI Router software.I'm wondering how many devices can be connected?Will too many devices would cause slow connection?

Depends if all the devices are connected at once, and use data at once.
On my router (Linksys WRT54G) the max connection is 50 devices.
