Garmin Connect "Modern" breaks functionality

I use Linux, and upload my files manually as the software Garmin provides does not work in Linux. With the new version I can't upload manually and the client software STILL does not support Linux. Why did they break this functionality?

If this is to remain, I'll have to abandon Garmin Connect I guess as they broke a key piece of functionality that allows the site to work on ANY system with a web browser.

  • I have read that they recently fixed the upload issues. If they haven't, I know that some people have been able to use this.

    Thanks for the link!

However, this isn't an upload issue per se. The new version of Garmin connect just flat out does not support uploading files through the web browser at all. I'm using the legacy version which still does, but they are saying they are going for FORCE everyone to use the new one pretty soon, which will leave me unable to upload files without a web interface.
  • What happens if you go to the activities page in the modern interface and click the Import link at top right?

Cheers mate, I was just about to ditch the site but the import option worked a treat. (Linux Lite/Firefox v28.0)

That's not really as easy as it used to be though is it?
  • It does seem strange that the "modern" way is not to work. Maybe they forgot to test it on Linux? Are there good alternatives to Garmin, as I'm due to upgrade my GPS watch soon and would be happy to ditch it with all the problems I have.
  • ... and now there seems to be no way to use the old classic mode. I feel like I've been ripped off here: pay £100 for a GPS watch and then can't see my results. Anything I can do?

No it's not. You now have to go searching for that link whereas the old upload was very prominent on most pages. Also the file folder prompt doesn't filter for the type of file (.tcx etc.). You have to search through all the files in your folder.

Why are you not using the software that the device is advertised to work with to upload your data?
