Connection activity not showing on dashboard

When I pull up my dashboard, my connections' activity is not showing up on the right side panel. All it says when your friends have new activities, their activity summaries will appear here. Everything shows on my son's dashboard, but not mine. What can I do to change this?
I'd like to add to this thread. If you go to "How to Use Garmin Connect" then to "Profiles & Connections" then to "What does it mean to connect with someone?" Help says "When you find a friend, foe or pro on Garmin Connect, you can connect with him or her. Once a connection is established, you can see your connection's activities, and he or she can see yours. It's a great way to get encouragement and find out what others are up to." My question is, what in particular are you supposed to see? Because I don't much of anything (just a graph showing the number of activities, total mileage and total elevation), but perhaps the problem is on the other person's side. I would like to see all their data (time, distance, MPH, cadence, heart rate, etc. for each activity) because I'm coaching that person. Is this possible? Thanks.
