You have no device on Garmin Connect / Edge 810 / MS IE11 - Windows 7

Modern prompts: You have no device on Garmin Connect
Switch to Classic - my Edge 810 is detected.
I updated/loaded Garmin Express - all updates current, although I see no user option or properties linking Express with Connect.

Modern Connect has a link for "Add a device using Garmin Express."
'Which takes me back to the Garmin Express upload, which I already did.

Can't find anything in Troubleshooting or FAQ's.

How does Express and Connect integrate?
Express seems to be an interface to update the device for software and firmware
Connect appears to be a database to store and analyze data.
Do these two programs/apps communicate???
Why does the Connect Modern layout direct you to Express to add a device?
Why does Connect Classic recognize my 810 but Modern does not?

It appears some work remains unfinished on Connect Modern.
Pls don't disable Classic.
  • I can't find a "Garmin Connect Account" section in Garmin Express. I've run the new install for Garmin Express and done all updates.

Select your device from the dropdown on the left. Click the Device link on the right. Scroll down. You should see a section for your Garmin Connect account. Apparently the options are there for some devices and not for others, but it should be there for the Edge 500.

Same issue with my Edge 200/Windows 7/Firefox 31.0. I'm able to upload activities using the Classic interface but the Modern interface doesn't see the device. Does the Modern interface require Java? (Java is disabled in my browsers.)
  • @[email protected] ---The modern interface does require Garmin Express to be installed and configured correctly. Did you install it?

The old Garmin Connect uses Garmin Communicator to facilitate uploads, but that won't work in the modern Garmin Connect.

Same problem with my Garmin 510.

Device well detected by Windows 7 (I can browse folders) but nothing from the side of "Garmin Express Fit". Old version of Garmin Connect interface with the web browser plug-in still working well (Hopefully). Hope that Garmin will fix the problem.

    Remark :
How with a so powerfull system, we cannot show the climbing pourcentage on map (need to convert fit to gpx files and then import to another website - Ridiculous !)
  • @S.CARPENTIER, if you installed Garmin Express and you are not seeing your activities on the website then I suspect you might need to try the suggestion is post#6 in this thread. If that's not it, then please describe your issue in some more detail. Simply saying "Same problem" to a thread doesn't help us any when some of the issues for those here have subtle differences that will have a different solution.

    My Solution

I have the Edge 500 also and suffering same problems, you can try this as it worked for me.
If you can open Garmin Express and see you device in there. My case the Edge 500. Delete it from Garmin Express and then Add device back again.
It will prompt for email and password, go through a process (which can take a while, say 5mins). The rest should explain itself.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have Express installed -- yesterday it was version 3.2.16.0; today I updated it to 3.2.17.0 and still no joy using the modern interface.

@MATT_66: Thanks, that did the trick for me and my Edge 200 as well. I also now see the Garmin Connect section on the Device tab in Garmin Express. Life is good again!
  • Note you should do that every time Express is updated or if you're having problems. See here http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin

I've got a Foretrex 401. Garmin Express never prompts me to log in - it asks me for my email address to register my device, and that's it. Not surprisingly, it doesn't sync properly with my account (since it never allowed me to log in). Is this a problem with the Foretrex 401 not being supported? Classic isn't currently uploading (server error).
