Modern Garmin Connect SLOW

Is it just me or is the new modern Garmin Connect site really slow compared to classic? Maybe it's just due to the increased number of users with the vivofits?

I have the problem on both my work and home computers. Even the mobile app seems to have slowed down. It makes it a real pain to use.
  • I have serious doubts that the number of VivoFit devices is anywhere near the number of Edge/Forerunner devices. That said, it shouldn't really matter because the Garmin Connect service appears to be hosted on Google Web Services, and there is plenty of compute power there. I'm guessing that the modern look-and-feel is what is slow.

I don't have access to it yet, but I'm sure a few seconds with a profiling tool would point out the problem.
  • I could see the number of vivofit users affecting the garmin connect site even if the number of users are lower as there is more of a focus on personal/group goals and challenges. Vivifit users likely have more frequent syncs and easier sync options via bluetooth smart. Most people (from what I've observed with my running club connections) with the Edge/Forerunner devices are syncing after they've completed an activity or every couple of days. The vivofit activity is recording all day long and will be synced at least once a day (from what I can tell with other connections/group challenges).

My 610 syncs automatically via Ant+ and then wifi to GC when I get in range of one of my 3 ant+ dongles and there are new activities to upload. That happens 4-5 times a week. I might look at that workout data just once a week via mobile app or the website just to check splits and heart rate info.

My vivofit gets synced in the morning for sleep data, after a circuit workout (with HRM) and then randomly when I'm near a computer with ant+. My phone is not bt smart compatible. Then I'm looking at the data more frequently via smart phone app or on the computer. People are curious about it so I've been showing them how it works. I'm a little obsessed with it right now because it's new and I'm trying to figure out a system that works for me.

I didn't attempt to do any profiling or know anything about their hosting solution. I don't have a lot of experience with cloud services and how resources are allocated. I just noticed that everything is much slower and it takes much longer to pull up the same info that is in classic. Maybe that is also because I'm more familiar with classic and I know right where to go.
  • What browser are you using? GC is TERRIBLE on Firefox (at least for me). However if I use Internet Explorer it runs quickly and flawlessly. I'm on a Win 7 64bit machine running Firefox 28 and IE 11.
  • I was always using Chrome. I just tried IE11 on Win7x64 and it flies. Wow... never had a problem with Chrome using classic. Didn't think to try another browser. Doh!
  • Add Garmin to the list of companies that forget people use web browsers other than IE. Face palm.

Thanks for the hint ! I found the app was very very slow, even before the new version... and its runs on Firefox. I'm going to try it at once with IE.

Not impressed at all, been trying to upload data for both my new Vivofit and Forerunner 410 all day but keep getting error message saying There was a problem communicating with Garmin servers, please try again later.
Is anyone else having same problem

Ridiculously slow. Will this ever be fixed? I have been a Garmin user for years, and the web interface has always been awful. What's the point of INPUTTING all of this data if you can't log in later to view it?
  • Seems like the websites are being updated at the mo, I'd give it a few hours then try again.. It's not normally like this ... you've just hit it at a bad time.
