Cannot register or load maps, keeps making me load plug in that I have

I have a new Oregon 650 and need to load some topo maps. I bought the maps but I cannot load them nor can I register the GPS. When I try to do anything the site requires me to install the communicator plug in, which I already have and is up to date. I tried deleting my copy and installing it again from the website but it keeps looping me back to the screen that makes me load it. When I check it it shows it is loaded and up to date.

I am on a PC using Firefox and the factory USBL cable. The computer and the GPS see each other.

Any hints?

What happens if you test the Communicator plug-in by visiting

It says I have an up to date copy installed.

Just reinstalled firefox. No change.

It could be a Garmin website issue.

Have you tried another browser (IE11 is known to be problematic)? How about creating a new Firefox profile (with no Extensions) and try that. I'm on Firefox 28.0 and the plug-in works fine for me.

I uninstalled firefox and the reinstalled it. That seemed to get things going. I am now downloading the map. It has been well over an hour and I am at 19%. So I may have a connection problem. I would like to reboot the modem but I am scared to shut the download off.
