Forerunner 110 turns itself back on

Often when I power off my Forerunner 110 to conserve battery it turns itself back on. Is this because of proximity to the heart rate monitor or is there something else I'm missing? Do I seriously have to walk to the other end of the house whenever I want to power off my Garmin?
