Multiple Bikes

I use two bikes with my Garmin Edge 500. Is there a way to show or see which bike (bike 1 or bike 2) was used on any particular activity? If there is, I am missing it. Thanks.
  • I don't believe so. I know that on the 910XT the only thing that changing the bike will do is change the bike specific settings (does it have a Speed/Cadence sensor, Calibration Factor, ...) and tell the device which bike to accumulate totals for.

I don't know a great deal about the .fit file format (I just downloaded the specification), but it appears that the file format doesn't have any field to identify which bike you were using. To me that indicates that once the workout data is saved, the bike that you used to record the data is lost forever.

If that is true, the only thing you can do is somehow identify the bike you were using. Many users have been asking for support to be added to identify equipment (running shoes most frequently), but it doesn't appear that this is happening. I've taken to adding the bike/shoes that I used in the title of the workout. For example, today's short ride will have the title Group Ride [Felt B12].

  • My solution for this is to register use of each bike With a different subcategory of cycling in GC. The road bike used on the road is "Road cycling", the road bike on the turbo trainer is "Indoor cycling", the mountain bike is "Mountain cycling" and the hybrid is "Cyclocross" (even if it's not a cyclocross bike). This makes it possible to run the analysis for each bike or in total for all cycling.

    Good thinking Tompro,
I'll call my single-speed 'Track cycling' even though it will never go onto a track. My reason for distinguishing them is to make sure I know how many km I've done on each - servicing and tyre wear checks to make sure I'm getting the km I'd expect from a tyre - is the main thing. I already put the bike in the activity title but that simply means totalling up km has to be done by exporting to excel or manually. It seems the G500 doesn't add km to a specific bike total, just to the device total.

+1 for tracking which bike I used. Can't believe this is not implemented. I just assumed that this feature existed when I bought my 510.

The FIT protocol defines a set of data storage templates (FIT messages) that can be used to store information such as user profiles and activity data in files. It is specifically designed to be compact, interoperable and extensible.
@Garmin: If not already implemented please extend fit file with info on which bike that was used.
