Garmin Edge 305: I cannot add this device to my new computer. HELP!

Using Windows 8.1 on my new Dell desktop. So far, I have been unable to add my Garmin Edge 305 as a device and I cannot connect to Garmin Express or Garmin Connect. Searching for a device using them get's me nowhere. I have downloaded the necessary plug-ins according to my computer and Garmin but I still cannot get my Edge 305 connected using Firefox or IE.

It was all working perfectly on my last computer (but it recently died) with Windows 7 using IE.

Please help. Thanks!
  • Were you using Garmin Express on your old computer?

Are you using IE11? IE11 is known to have issues with the Garmin Communicator Plugin. Firefox (what I use) should work.

Trying testing the plugin by going to this page.

  • I've used that detector a bunch with no luck. I generally use FF as my main browser. I only use IE for one thing otherwise I'd dump it because I don't trust it at all. My system says that the needed plugin is missing, (even though I've gone through the process of downloading it) and therefore it cannot add it as a device of the system. I believe it's a plugin issue over all.
  • Maybe my suggestion was stated too subtly. You weren't using Garmin Express (presumably you were using the ANT Agent and the Communicator Plugin) on your old computer and it worked fine. You are using Garmin Express on the new computer and it isn't working. Suggestion... Stop using Garmin Express. Uninstall it. Install the ANT Agent and Garmin Communicator Plugin.

This has resolved a lot of issues for people recently. I'm not certain that the Edge 305 is even supported with Garmin Express, but I'm certain the ANT Agent was compatible.

Thank you for your suggestion. Would you be so kind as to supply a link for the ANT Agent to make things easier for me? Thanks again!
  • ^^^ CORRECTION! I already have the ANT Agent installed on my new system. I also have the USB Drivers installed. I did also have Garmin Express installed and I installed it because the ANT Agent was working. So, I'm basically back to square one.

My computer beeps when I plug my Garmin Edge 305 into it but I cannot add it as a device to my system nor can I connect to a Garmin website with it.
  • If you have Garmin Express installed, you should uninstall it. I'd also consider removing everything, getting the system back to a clean state, installing the ANT Agent and Communicator Plugin, and finally pairing your device. Other than that, I think the best solution is to look through the posts in the Edge 305 and ANT Agent forums.

I uninstalled everything related to Garmin and then I reinstalled the ANT Agent and a USB driver. Garmin sort of recognizes my unit but I cannot upload anything.

My computer's troubleshooter says it's connected via a 3.0 USB slot but that's not true. It's connected via a 2.0 USB slot. This is getting more confusing by the minute. I think I'm going back to where I bought this computer to confirm the my USB slots in front are indeed 2.0 and not 3.0

My system still will not accept my Edge 305 into it's devices tray. It's considered "unspecified".
