Sharing links with friends NOT connected to Garmin are not shown correctly

I am new to Garmin Connect and still experimenting with it. I noticed that some of the data of the activities which I share with friends NOT connected to Garmin don't show correctly.
When I share a new activity for example on Facebook or with e-mail the sharing link shows the distances in miles and temperatures in Fahrenheit if visited by a friend who is NOT connected to Garmin.
The data should be shown in kms and °Celcius.
My profile is set to Dutch, units to metric and time zone to GMT Western EU Time.

It seems the info shows the units as set in their profile or, when not logged in, as the Garmin default (miles and °F).

This does not really make sense to me because the shared link should detect my profile details (language, units, ...) and show the correct units, right, or not ?
  • If someone doesn't have an account on Garmin Connect, or they are logged out, they are given the option of selecting the units they wish to use near the top-right corner of the page.

It seems to me that it doesn't make sense for Garmin to just go and use your defaults for everyone who may view an activity that was created by you. Given the URL for the activity, they have no idea who actually shared it-- I can easily share links to your public activities.

Garmin has to choose a default value for any person who doesn't have a Garmin account, and there are holes with each of them. Right now that default assumes that the preferred unit is Statue. The hole is that users of the metric system have to click a button. You propose it to be the units used by the person who created/shared that activity. That doesn't work for people who see your shared information that don't live in your region. They have to click the button. Garmin could also implement a system to select a default based on the units used by the region the viewer is presumed to be (an ip address gives some information about where a user is located). This works great unless they live/work in a region where units vary by frequently.

The end result is that it doesn't matter what Garmin does. Some people will be annoyed that it doesn't do the right thing and those people will have to click the little button to change the units. Garmin could go through a lot of trouble to implement the solution you propose, but the end result is the same from their perspective. This means a lot of work spent on doing something that provides no net benefit (unless someone can provide data that indicates the locality of people who click through your shared link, and levels of frustration of those users who don't already have Garmin Connect accounts).
