Cannot share courses I created

I have created (and rode) several courses using the Garmin Connect site. I have made these courses public - the lock shows unlocked. I go to email the course to a friend and nothing happens.

I try to copy the address from my browser, and it cannot be opened by the person to whom I am sending the course.

from my browser:

http://connect.garmin.com/course/4262344#

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
  • I can't view your course either. I tried to load the course information using the web service and it fails. See for yourself...

I created a test course and had no problem sharing it. When I click the E-mail sharing option, I get a dialog that pops right up and allows me to enter data to send the e-mail. I can also view the course from an unauthenticated session.

You might try recreating the activity from scratch. There is a chance that there was some sort of problem on Garmin Connect when you created it, and recreating it may resolve it.

I had problems with creating a created course and when talked to a Garmin Tech that told me to use Chrome for a browser when going to Garmin Connect. That worked but now I'm having trouble with sharing a course using email. The website shows the share box, allows me to pick email, put in an address, tells me to "type these letters, hit send and then tells me the email has been sent. The problem is no one I've sent these courses to have ever received them. I also do not show them as sent. I've sent activities before with no problem but that also seems to not be working. Anyone have any ideas?

    Two things.

First, I have no problem sharing a course via e-mail. I just tried it and it worked just fine. I am a gmail user, but I'm guessing you are a yahoo.com user? If so I can explain why it isn't working, but it is a little complicated. Also, regardless of your e-mail provider, if you use the Garmin e-mail sharing feature to send an activity via e-mail, that won't show up in your e-mail outbox as a sent item. It just won't. It can't unless you want to give Garmin direct access to your e-mail account.

Second, the easiest way to share an activity is to go to the activity page, select the text in the address bar, copy the text, open a new e-mail message using your preferred e-mail client, paste the address into the e-mail and then send the e-mail to whomever you wish. This is pretty much guaranteed to work since it bypasses anything that Garmin might be doing.

I have the same problem. When I share an activity or course by either using the "share" icon, or by copying and pasting the url into an email directly, the recipient cannot follow the link to the course or activity. Instead they are taken to this error page???? Seems simple enough to share a url, so I don't know why they can't ever get to the course or activity. Same thing happens if I post the url link into FB. They click the link and are taken to the attached error page???? (And yes all of my courses and activities are public.

Any idea what is going on, or did anyone figure this out? I use the Chrome browser and never used to have this problem.

    Same issue for me too.

This is so frustrating as we have just told all our club ride leaders to only use Garmin Connect for course creation. A course url is then provided to members midweek via email for them to upload to their devices for the weekend.

I am also in the process of finalising a 3 day weekend away for the club and need to provide eight route url's to all attendee's. At this moment in time i am unable to do this.

    Example course - http://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/7769306

Come on Garmin, sort out this mess.
  • It is unfortunate that this doesn't work, but for the time being you could just send direct links to the fit/gpx/tcx files on Garmin Connect. If you know the course number, you should be able to download it. For example, the course you linked to above has the id number 7769306. The following urls should retrieve the course data in the three different formats.

    https://connect.garmin.com/proxy/course-service-1.0/fit/course/7769306
    https://connect.garmin.com/proxy/course-service-1.0/gpx/course/7769306
    https://connect.garmin.com/proxy/course-service-1.0/tcx/course/7769306

Once your members have that data, they should be able to get the course onto their device. Instructions for doing that are available from places like ridewithgps. For instance, here are instructions for getting course files onto common Garmin Edge devices...

It should be possible to get the course onto a Forerunner device, but I haven't tried to do it directly since switching away from the ANT Agent.
