Tidal Tables and Surf functions

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to add world wide tidal tables to the Fenix 2?
Also a Surf function? This wld be mostly for fun such as time spent paddling and number of strokes and it could also estimate the time actually spent surfing...

Thanks a lot.
  • So far the Tides function only works with the US version of the Tactix. U could try to use
the swim profile of the Fenix 2 for surfing, but u need to pauze it every time your waiting
    for a nu set..
  • Thanks for your reply. If it works on the Tactix, could it be added at some point (I'm based in France though)...

I created my own activity for surfing based on open water. But something based on the ski-board where there would be three situations:

    1. paddling (based on strokes)
    2. waiting (autopause)
    3. surfing (based on sudden move + speed)

I know it wouldn't be accurate at all, but could be fun.

I would LOVE to see this as well! Do not think it would be that hard to code?
  • Spent the WE with the RIP CURL's Search GPS watch and...

I'm pretty sure that Garmin could do the same exact stuff with the Fenix 2. And that would be AWESOME...

  • I just added a wave tracking data field for the 920xt. It's not quite as fancy as the RipCurl watch, but it should give the basic stats for each wave ride:

    Oh my god !!
You just did what i was expected in order to buy a fenix 3 !
Is your app going to work on Fenix 3 ?

A friend of mine has a rip curl search watch, it's really great, but only for surfing !
I tried it while running, if you accelerate it starts a wave, and any time brings you to the ocean...

    Any way,
    Good job !
  • Thanks lbehin. Right now it is just for the 920xt, but I could make it work for the Fenix 3. The only issue is trying to fit the numbers on the round screen. I'm not sure how to do that and would need to think about the design. Maybe:
    # Waves
    Time|Dist|Spd
    MaxTime|MaxDist|MaxSpd

    Open to suggestions...

Maybe we shoul think about what you need at first when you're surfing:
    1) time (oh my god, my wife is waiting for me for diner ! ;) )
    2) as you said #wave
    3) Specs of the last wave

Maybe for the "max specs" you can keep it for a second screen ?
And is it possible to see "totals" (time surfing, distance, etc..)

More info on what Rip Curl does:
    http://www.ripcurl.com/searchgps-1.html

At the end of the "workout" is it possible to save the specs ?
  • Hi lbehin: the first 3 are okay. Since it is just a data field there are limits on what can be done. The rest of what you are talking about would require an app. Read this for more info if you haven't already:
    http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/01/connect-iq-intro.html

The datafield was fairly easy to do but an app would be a lot more involved. For now I will try to fit what I have for the 920 screen on the Fenix 3 and see how it goes.

I'm waiting for your great work to put this on the Fenix 3, even if I don't have any date of issue ...
    So wait and see !

Of course Rip Curl made an app (only for Iphone !), but they have time and money ! My freind has it. I find it nice, but not perfect... And i'm sure your app works as great as his watch, i can't wait to compare (one on each arm !)
