Avg Cadence wrong in the Details pane.

New bug. A recent ride saved on my 705 shows an avg cadence of 86 rpm on the device (Zero Averaging is off). Uploaded to GC, the Avg Bike Cadence is 72 rpm in the Details pane. All previously uploaded rides are correct. It appears that GC is now averaging in zeros...

This is true whether the activity type is Cycling or Road Cycling.

Separate known issue: Set to Cycling, the cadence plots properly in Charts pane. Set to Road Cycling, the cadence plot is blank.
  • Still seeing this with new rides and also after re-uploading old rides that were showing the correct Avg Cadence in GC. I deleted and old ride in GC which showed correct Avg Cadence and then re-uploaded the TCX history file. It showed the wrong Avg Cadence after up-loading.

    Certainly others are seeing this.
  • The tcx/gpx files are generated from the data that Garmin is storing. If the data you see after re-uploading , this could mean that the conversion to a tcx/gpx file from generated bad data, or the upload process generated bad data, or both. It might be useful to determine which part is broken.

  • Avg cadence (Zero averaging off) shows correctly on an 500 and 705. Rides uploaded in the past also show correctly in GC. Rides uploaded now show incorrectly in GC. Past rides that showed correctly in GC and now re-uploaded to GC from the device show incorrectly in GC. This suggests quite strongly that it is GC that has changed.
  • Right, I'm not trying to decide if your device is broken. I'm trying to determine if it is the upload process or the download as tcx process that is broken. It sounds like upload is broken, and that possibly the download process is broken as well.

  • Upload process is broken on which end? Uploading is simply transferring files and the files haven't changed since they were uploaded the first time and average cadence was shown correctly. Same file uploaded now shows incorrect cadence. Suggests to me GC is broken.

Perhaps this is related to the known issue where Cadence is plotted in the graph pane when the activity is identified as one of the sub categories of "Cycling", such as Road Cycling, etc...
  • I contacted Garmin Support via email and after a number of exchanges the bug in GC is now apparently fixed. Rides that I had previously uploaded where the avg cadence was wrong in GC were still wrong in GC, but deleting them and uploading them again fixed it. A bit tedious if you need to do this for a lot of rides.

As a side note, it also appears that the cadence graph display for Cycling activity subtypes has been fixed.
  • Nope, not fixed. It is doing it, but only when there are splits. The avg cadence for each of the splits is correct, but the overall avg cadence is incorrect.
