Garmin Montana Maps Issue - ***********Solve it and win a dinner!***********

I've researched the web for days with no luck...

I hope someone smarter than me can tell me what the Fukuoka is going on with my Montana.

I had this GPS for a few years and it worked flawlessly with my Australian Topo Maps, I then moved to Singapore and got some (genuine) Garmin City Navigator Maps on SD Card.

From day one I had problems:

I usually start navigating with no issues up until the point where the 3D arrow gets stuck and doesnt move anymore.
I can see the GPS is still working as the distance to the next turn ois going down as I ride, I can even check my speed.
If I try to move the map around it doesnt show anything but a blank area.
At some point it starts working again almost as if it couldnt read the data from the SD card and then is was able to.
Once I got home I tried to simulate the navigation following the same itinerary I jsut rode on.
Sure enough the problem happened again. At the very same location.
I need to also point out I thought my maps were dodgy (eBay purchase) so I've got some new ones however the issue is still here.

I have actually shot a video of it (of terrible quality..)

If anyone can find a solution will have a dinner on me! (T&C apply ;-)

First off I assume you're currently using these maps.

    City Navigator Southeast Asia NT

Secondly are your Aus Topos (v2, v3 or v4?) maps enabled or disabled? It shouldn't matter since I don't think they overlap the SE Asia maps.

In short having two or more overlapping maps containing routing data can cause issues.

BTW what's for dinner? Meat pies and tomato sauce? :p

    Thanks StuartMW,
you haven't quite earned that dinner ;-)

Yes, that is the map I have (City Navigator Southeast Asia NT), I have actually disabled all the other maps, I have also done a master reset on the GPS and installed the latest firmware.. It is still not working... bloody technology!

    Bummer. I could go for a pie'n'sauce.

Hmm, not sure what else to try. Strange things seem to happening in your part of the world lately.

Sauce (Ketchup) I have. Pies (as in Aussie) I don't.

So you have two copies of the SE Asia maps. Are both pre-programmed cards or did you buy the 2nd copy in download format? If the latter you can put the file in your Montana's internal memory rather than on a card.

I actually have both maps on SD cards, I removed the one I thought was dodgy for a new one.. which seems to be just as dodgy.
The only one really happy here is Garmin for the double sale!

Well since pre-programmed cards work in any unit you could sell one or both.
