Garmin Edge 500 - distance accuracy

I've installed in December 2013 on my bike the Garmin Vector and the Garmin Edge 500. On the trainer everything is OK. Today I took the bike for a ride outside and I noticed that the Edge 500 was stopping and starting as if I was stopping, which was not the case. I turned the auto stop function off and the problem did not occur anymore. But at the end of the 80 km ride the computer was showing only 65 km. The cadence speed sensor were detected as I started the ride. What could be the problem? How can it be solved? Thanks for answering!

In the meanwhile I think I've solved the problem. I restarted the sensor pushing the white button, and moving the magnet closer to the sensor.
