New Garmin Connect w/ 910X and Vivofit: Steps, Calories aren't summed in totals

Hi,

I just purchased a Vivofit yesterday. I also have a 910Xt I use for triathlons and noticed the Garmin Connect website (New version) doesn't quite work the way I thought it would. I wore the vivofit all day then swapped it with my 910XT for a 5 mile run with the Garmin footpod on my shoes. I purposely didn't wear the vivofit so it wouldn't double register total steps but it appears that it isn't adding steps, active calories, etc. together on my dashboard. I guess from now on I could wear both sensors but this seems awkward and less accurate as I'm sure the footpod sensor works better for steps than a wrist strap.

Am I doing this correctly? Anybody out there own two devices (Vivofit + other?) and been able to get this to work? I would appreciate any advice.

If I do end up having to wear both sensors then is it possible to sync the heart strap with both for proper calorie counting?
  • I'm replying because I'm in the same situation and I haven't figured out how to integrate them either. I'm using a similar approach of just taking off the Vivofit whenever I'm using a different Garmin device. Unfortunately, since the Vivofit was intended for 24/7 use as an all-day activity tracker, I'm not sure how well it's going to do at just filling the niche that I hoped it would: being the device that I want use to track activity where I don't care about GPS. I'm still working on it, I'll let you know if I come up with anything worthwhile.

If nothing else, with the Vivofit Garmin found a way to ensure that at every second of my life, I'm both advertising for them and collecting useful marketing data. Fortunately for Garmin, I'm a sucker for gadgets and I have disposable income...

    Update:
Today went on a 15 mile bike ride and wore both Vivofit and 910Xt. The good news is that both devices shared my heart monitor properly and the Vivofit interface showed BPM and heart zone on the display which was cool. One weird thing was that the Red inactivity bar had filled up all the way on my car ride home and continued to fill up for the first half of my ride despite my heart zone being in 3 and 4 mostly. This is just stupid if it only looks at "steps" and not heart zone to decide activity. It eventually went away I'm assuming because I went over enough bumps in the pavement to register "active steps". Didn't record the steps before I started though so I'll have to check this again next time I bike.

One interesting thing is as expected the "Active Calories" showed two events (about 100 calorie difference between the Vivofit and 910X) but the "Total Calories" section showed neither activity included in the daily calories. Apparently "Total" means Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) + non active steps. This should clearly include the Active calories in this measurement. I ended up deleting the Vivofit's Activivity manually.

Tomorrow I'll try the Vivofit with Crossfit which is actually the entire reason I bought it. If the little red bar doesn't go away due to lack of "activity" (not many steps) but my heart rate is in Zone 3 then I will be very dissapointed and probably be taking the Vivofit back to the store.
  • I have the same issue with my vivofit and Edge 810. The calories and activity information is only shown for the vivofit and the connect site ignores any other data in the summaries.

It seems that in releasing a new product they have ignored all of their others :(
  • Same problem with the FR620. Calories from the 620 are not included in the daily totals (I am wearing either the 620 or the Vivofit, not both). Also, the 620 counts steps. Only Vivofit steps are showing in the totals, not the FR620 steps.

I feel like this will be in GC2. Actually, I feel like this should already be in GC2 but if it's coming soon... The reason that I went with a Garmin device is because all of the information is in one place. I could have gone with a FitBit and Syncmetrics to put it all elsewhere. Hopefully GC2 will be up to par in the very near future.
  • I own a FR910 XT w/ foot pod and since 10 days or so a Vívofit. I had an expectation, because before I owned a Fitbit Flex. It was possible to load my Garmin data to the Fitbit dashboard. However, this was not accurate but it is possible to edit the uploaded data.

Garmin Connect is doing something with the data but with no sence. The Foot Pod data is igrnored on the dashboard, the diagramm doesn't shows me anything but I can see my spm.

The dashboard sums the km/miles from the FR910XT *and* the Vívofit. That's anoying, because it is no additional km when I wear them both.

Even worse is the data mess on calories. On Sunday I recorded 497 kcal on the FR, the dashboard shows a BMR of 2274 plus 310 activ calories. Even worse, on Saturday it is 383 for the FR, 2274 BMR on the dashboard plus incredibe 2660 kcal for activ calories.

As I said I traded the Fitbit Flex for the Vívofit, because I like the waterproofness and because I don't have to charge every few days. But I want also to trade the FR910 for a Fenic 2. But if I can't use them in a senceful manner together, or if I have to use two accounts, then I can buy a Suunto ambit w/ sapphire and 100m Waterproofness.

So Garmin people, time is running. at least let us know what you plan to do and when.

I have seen several posts that the idea is to be able to wear the vivofit all the time and then perform an activity and it be properly integrated. Now I do not think it is all the way there. But being new to the market I will give them a break. I had one of the first fitbits that came out and they had a lot of challenges as well. I do think garmin is headed in the right direction. I am willing to give it some time to see if they can bring it all together. And I sure hope they do I hate having 2 different devices form 2 different companies and then trying to put it all together.

Any update on this issue? I have the same issue where my 910XT and Vivofit both get counted in Garmin Connect. Seems that you should be able to keep them both on as they serve different purposes but Garmin Connect should take this into consideration and not double the miles and calories for the day by counting the same activity twice.

I understood that calorie data from the Vivofit is shown separately from other activities, for instance I have Health and Fitness (Vivofit) tab and Cycling tab, I can only see the active calories separately there is no 'total' calories report or option, which is rather frustrating as sort of defeats the object of tracking totals, these clever gadgets are supposed to do the math!! I did however read a review about the Vivofit and this was an issue that was highlighted, but did suggest that Garmin were looking to compile them together......the question is WHEN!!!

The rollout of the Garmin Connect Modern interface is nothing short of a disaster, it is all pretty much useless and does not currently integrate well at all, I am majorly disappointed, but hope they can salvage it to work comprehensively with all of their gadgets.....It makes total sense to be able to monitor your total activity and results from each day if that is required......Come on Garmin Get it sorted!
