GPX Run vs Walk stats?

I am looking for a program that I could import a gpx to and get the information on how much I ran and how much I walked. For instance (i know I could use intervals) I go on a 5 mile workout and I just run until I get too tired then walk until I feel I can run again. At the end I would know how much I ran and how much I walked. Does anyone reading this know if such a program exists?
  • Such a program would have to know the what pace/speed you consider be the line between walking and running. If you are using some sort of Garmin device that supports laps (i.e., has a Lap button) and you pressed the Lap button every time you transition from running to walking (or vice-versa), it would be trivial.

If the data for the workout is already in Garmin Connect, and provided Garmin doesn't mind 3rdparty applications accessing their web service API, I'm pretty sure I could write up a python script to do it in a few hours. If you want something to parse the GPX file that you have locally, I'm pretty sure I could do that as well.

Wow that would be awesome. I would think it would be popular to gauge a beginning runners level of fitness wouldn't it? Thanks
