uploading file in .tcx or .gpx format

I was tyring to export my activities from the Garming Training Center software and upload them to Garmin Connect but haven't been able to sucessfully do so. I've tried exporting both as .gpx files and as .tcx files and then upload to Connect via the manual import part of the Garmin connect interface. However, I get "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again" everytime I try. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Do i have to upload only one activity at a time? (I tried this also, but couldn't get it to work.)

    Please give this a try again. The Garmin Connect team released a patch that fixed an issue with uploading certain files to Garmin Connect.

    I tried and now the upload succeeded with the same gpx file that yesterday fail.
    The gpx file was created by an Oregon 450 , manual tranfered to pc (windows) and never manipulated.

    At least... thanks Garmin

    OK - so seems that Garmin have sorted their website. Shame I am now hooked on Strava :-)

    The whole upload to Garmin connect is just rendering the service useless from the point of view of managing you courses. I have downloaded a number of GPX TCX files downloaded from standard sites, like Strava or 'ride with GPS' where people have created courses that I would like to upload to my device via Garmin connect. They just constantly fail. I tried a similar GPX from other sites these too fail. All I am doing is saving the file to a local drive, then in Garmin connecct, logging in, upload/manual uplaod/ choose gpx or tcx file and hit 'upload activites from file'. Always get an 'error occured with your upload, please try again.' The only one I got to upload recently was one that actually opened in the GARMIN connect web page as mentioned below. Surely Garmin can't be that restrictive that they only want to open GPX files that have been created on their site.

    I have opened a GPX file that didn't upload successfully from http://humanrace.co.uk/events/cycling/chiltern-100-sportive and another one that also didn't and can't see any difference, it's all longitude and latitude ending and starting with some XML ish code.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gpx xmlns:xsi="www.w3.org/.../XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:gpxdata="www.cluetrust.com/.../0" xmlns="www.topografix.com/.../0" xsi:schemaLocation="www.topografix.com/.../0 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd http://www.cluetrust.com/XML/GPXDATA/1/0 www.cluetrust.com/.../gpxdata10.xsd" version="1.0" creator="ridewithgps.com/">

    Whats infuriating is that I can't export a course from garmin connect to view a 'succesfull' GPX file compared to the ones that fail.

    What is annoying is that if I go to webpage http://connect.garmin.com/course/embed/5518642 I can then view the details and 'save as' and it saves as a course.

    the other possibility is that I am using a Forerunner and the GPX files might be applicable for only EDGE devices, but to my thinking Garmin Connect shouldn't care what the device is. I have uploaded a file to the forum (which I have to say is also a mission, why are Garmin making simple things hugely complicated, I just want to upload a file I don't need to 'manage attachments')

    Hello Guy,

    I checked your first link and downloaded the gpx track for "Medio Fondo Final".
    The problem is not Garmin Connect. The problem is the file....it has no timestamps.
    Connect will not accept any files that do not have timestamps.
    There are several programs that will convert gpx and add timestamps.

    Here is that file after running it thru GPSies and converting it to a GPX Track.
    GPSies adds fake timestamps making the average speed to be 6 mph.

    I try this...Open exported gpx file exported from Basecamp at WordPad...Copy (Ctrl + C) whole content...Open Notepad...Paste (Ctrl + V)...Save as text...Rename from .txt to .gpx...Try to import to Garmin Connect...And...OK :-) I see it in dashboard whole tracks with temperatures and HR...Thanks for this idea...

    @DATEZZ that is satisfaction.

    I have tried with two more recent files and i have taken the <metdata> <time>section and copied and pasted into the same location on the new files and I still get the error. so its back to running it through GPSies which rocks.

    Thanks for the reply and service. solved a huge headache

    Sorry guy's I have run these files through gpsies, converted from GPX to TCX and also tried, opening in gpsies which works fine, then downloading as a new file. However still not getting any joy.

    I also seem incapable of uploading files to the Garmin file share system either as I can't delete the files already there, so try this link to download the files that aren't working.

    Hello Guy,

    Those files you attached are "routes" not "tracks".

    These particular routes contain 1700 and 2100 waypoints each and of course no timestamps because routes never have timestamps.
    Many gps units have a limit of 200 waypoints so these will not load into most any unit in this format.
    So, lucky you....you got a double whammy....no timestamps and a wad of waypoints.

    Just load each one into GPSies and convert to GPX Track.
    You have to copy and paste the "mile markers" from the route to the track after conversion.

    Here is what I get.

    Thanks DATZZ. so is it me being an idiot or shouldn't Garmin Connect handle different formats as all I want to do is import that route/track/course or am I missing something. Point is, that if the various 3rd party sites can handle and convert why doesn't Garmin connect have a facility, I think people are quickly diverting to strava/map my ride etc all of which make things much easier.
