Missing cadence chart when using foot pod

When running outside without GPS signal, the pace is correctly displayed & recorded by my FR610, but on the GC the cadence chart is empty, even if in the TCX file that can be exported I can see the cadence data.

Here is an example:

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/453069966

Has anyone had this issue before?

Thanks,
Adrian
  • I think Garmin connect is broken. None of my runs currently show anything for cadence although they used to.

    Hello Adrian,

The problem is that your file is corrupt. There are no coordinates for the first 14 minutes during which you ran 3km. Connect has done some manipulation to get your data imported and fake the graphs but look at the map. You will see that where you started, Green icon, is not where you stopped, Red icon.

Open the Player and you will see that the first 3km show no movement of the map icon because there are no coords to follow.
The first 3km (14min) show only a plot of your pace versus time.

Apparently Garmin has not figured out a way to fake the Cadence graph yet.

Also, after the 610 got satellite lock and recorded coordinates, it recorded 5.13km GPS distance. The Pedometer recorded 4.82km distance.
Your Pedometer is measuring 6% short.

There is nothing wrong with Connect when you load a non-corrupt file like this one.

I've noticed all of my past activities no longer show the cadence graph. The cadence summary still has the averages, maximums, and stride length. When I first upload the data and look at the activity the cadence data is graphed and its only when I view it subsequently that its missing. Even the Player mode doesn't allow you display the cadence. This only started over the last week. The same is true for bike ride cadence. I'm sure the problem is with Garmin Connect not with the actual device, I hope this isn't a new "feature".

    Hello Hrynevych,

Attach your original file if possible or a link to Garmin Connect and someone will check your track for corruption.
All the tracks I have loaded that have cadence and power all graph perfectly just like the one I posted earlier.

You might want to check that. It presently seems to be, that if you change the activity type, from the default to a sub type, then the cadence graph will go blank. If you change it back to the default, e.g running, then the cadence will reappear.

The file is not corrupt, it just didn't have GPS lock at the begining of the activity, therefore no GPS coordinates. This is why it shows the green start icon in a different position than the stop icon. But this should not have stopped GC to draw the cadence chart since the cadence data is available for the whole activity. In fact after I changed the activity type from Running -> Trail running into just Running (like SHARKBAIT_AU suggested), the cadence graph appeared. Then I tried to change it back to Trail running and it dissapeared again.

You can check this, I left the activity as 'Running' and the cadence graph is there.

So I think it's clearly a GC issue.
  • DATEZZ,

Here is another activity where I had GPS lock from the beginning, and where the cadence chart is missing:

    Hello Adrian,

I looked at your GC Player and saw that there is no Cadence graph nor Cadence option in the upper right corner with Elevation nor the Cadence bar at the bottom below the map.

I exported your file and loaded it into my GC and the Cadence graph plotted perfectly?
I opened my Player and there is the Cadence option in the upper right corner with Elevation and the Cadence bar at the bottom below the map?
BUT under > Analyze Tab > Activities > your file shows no "Steps"?
That might be why you have no Cadence graph but I do not know why I do?
    Maybe it will disappear later?

So...I ran your file thru the Fit File Repair Tool, knocked off the first 3 seconds and saved it as a FIT file with a new name.
This file will load into your GC along with your original file so you can compare how GC displays them both.
On my GC this new file displays everything correctly PLUS it shows "Steps" in the chart under > Analyze Tab > Activities >.

Apparently all the data is in the file and in GC but is corrupted slightly such that GC cannot use it.

Here is your file fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool. Let us know what happens when you load it.

PS: Pedometer = 9.47km and GPS = 9.52km. Looks to be spot on this time.

    Hey Guys,

I've been trying to solve this issue, today i found that any foot data saved on GC isn't being shown with graphs. I think this is definitely a problem on Garmin Connect... ¿Will it be repaired anytime soon?

By setting the activity as "Running" and "Race" I can see todays foot graph (or the new activities), but I don't think that should be the master solution.

    Thanks and Regards!
