Garmin Express Deactivates Garmin Ant Agent?

Since installing Garmin Express (which works fine with the Garmin Connect site), I can no longer use the Garmin Ant Agent (which I need to upload to other sites such as Strava). The Garmin Ant Agent now shows Not Active, No Device. I'm guessing it gets turned off in the installation of Garmin Express. Is there any way of reactivating it? (I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ant agent and it comes up the same: not active, no device).
  • I can't confirm that Garmin Express disables the ANT Agent, but if you believe that to be so, I'd uninstall all Garmin software and drivers, reboot, and reinstall the ANT Agent. I'd continue to use the ANT Agent until it stopped working, or you could be sure that its replacement met your needs.

  • Installed Garmin Express. Tried it, liked it until I realised there were no local storage options. Uninstalled it and reloaded ANT Agent and Garmin Communicator.

Emailed Garmin Support - suggest others do to - requesting local storage option.

This is a game breaker for me. I've been tolerant of Garmin's flaws with their devices over the years, but this is one step to far. Unless the option to store locally is returned, this will likely be the last Garmin I own.

CBERT78. You don't need ANT Agent to upload to other sites, you need the files to be stored locally on your computer where the other sites know where to find them. From what others have said elsewhere, Garmin Express stores them locally and deletes them once uploaded to Garmin Connect.
  • Same here. I uninstalled Garmin Express as soon as I realized there is no local storage of files. I reinstalled ANT agent and won't change unless Garmin does something about this.

With Garmin Express means my 910 is not compatible with Golden Cheetah unless I download files from Garmin Connect and import them from Golden Cheetah. A pain.
  • um, Garmin have already restored local storage of files. It isn't in the same place as it used to be, but if you have the newest version of Express, your activities are retained.

Could you say where they are retained?
  • I can indeed, see this link for your assorted and OS-dependent options.

Express handles ANT devices nicely if all you want to do is upload to Connect. You can even assign different devices to different accounts, I think.
It messes up other websites using Communicator for ANT devices, though. You can upload the files directly from the locations above, but the Communicator interface currently only works with watches plugged into USB, because it has no idea where Express has stashed the files. I hope Garmin will be quick to implement what should be a pretty easy fix.

Any idea where (or if) GE stores health data uploaded from a Tanita scale via a 910XT? There's no sign of it where the activities are stored, but if you struggle it does eventually get uploaded to GC, although it gets ignored on the first pass when the activites are uploaded.

I'm receiving a server error message when uploading data from wahoo fitness to garmin connect, what is the solution for this problem?

I have no idea, sorry. I don't have a Tanita so can't poke around, either.

GE installs and starts Garmin Core Update Service that grabs the ANT stick. Stopping it releases the ANT stick for ANT Agent to use, but the system will restart the Update Service unless you change it from
automatic start to manual start before stopping it.
