Forerunner 610 won't connect to the new Garmin Express. It is wanting to install 2 updates. I use a iMac.
  • I have EXACTLY the same problem. The 2 updates just hang, don't recognize my Forerunner 610, so after 10 hours, I gave up and aborted the program. Tried it all again, and got the same problem. Never had this problem before when using the ANT agent. Sure wish this software was better tested before release to the marketplace.
  • What updates? If GE is telling you it wants to install 2 updates to your device, then it is connected. it appears that GE does not read the software version from your device, but seeks to apply the most recent updates and then records the status - same behaviour with the 910XT. Unless you are against applying the updates, there should be no harm in applying them. Can;t speak for the 620, but reapplying the software update does not cause any additional problems.

    I too, have a MAC.

I have the same problem, using a Forerunner 610 and an iMac. Downloaded Garmin Express, agreed to download the updates, and next it tells me the device needs to be connected?! It's right here.

Don't tell me I should connect using a USB cable? Should I?

So far I liked the ANT Agent way better!
  • Do you have to 'Pair' the device? Have you got turned on pairing on your device?

Exact same problem with mine. I went back to the Ant agent and downloaded a firmware update to 2.9- it took a long time but eventually finished. I thought that might solve the problem with the new Express but nope- same as your problems. It won't connect to the device.

Interesting you got 2.9 installed on 610 with Ant Agent. I gave up on GE and reinstalled Ant Agent, I can sync my activities but the firmware won't update. Could be a blessing i read a few people are having issues with 2.9?

I have no problems using Garmin Express to upload activities from my 910XTs. However, I have to fight tooth and nail to get the data from my Tanita scale uploaded. I never had this problem with ANT Agent.

Update: My problems with GE went away with GE 3.0.7. There hasn't been a firmware update for 910XTs to try installing, but GE 3.0.7 (and now 3.0.9) work fine for uploading activities and health data.
  • I cannot even get the Express software to load. I just get a "Installation Failed" message. It sounds like I would be wise to wait until all the bugs are sorted!

Remove the 610 from Express, choosing the option to keep it associated with Connect. Make sure the 610 is set up for pairing and add the 610 back to Express. It will then upload your activities and not tell you that you need to update the 610, unless you do. I haven't tried it, but I believe that you still won't be able to put workouts from Connect to the 610 yet. If you want to do that, stick with the ANT agent.

You might find the issue is with your PC rather than Express. While it isn't perfect most seem at least able to install it.
