Time versus Elapsed Time versus.. who knows what?

The recent change to Garmin Connect is now showing my elapsed time as opposed to my activity time. This includes time spent at intersections. I am using a Garmin 410 and have confirmed the setting Auto Pause (when stopped) is turned on in the watch. It was all working like a clam up until the update. Now cannot figure out how to get that back. To give example, I just did a light jog a bit ago. The watch said 31 minutes. Garmin Connect is claiming I jogged for 41 minutes, causing my pace to look all funky. See this, from its FAQ:

How are the Time measurements defined at Garmin Connect?
Garmin Connect provides three Time measurements on the Details page:

Time

Time is the recording time reported by the device. For Fitness devices, this should equal the Time value reported on the device. For other devices, this should equal the amount of time elapsed from the actual Start and Finish time of an activity.

Avg Speed/Pace is based off the Time value.

Moving Time

Garmin Connect calculates Moving Time by removing the amount of time when the user is stopped. This is helpful for customers who upload activities with a Garmin device that either don't have AutoPause or have AutoPause turned off. For those who have AutoPause turned on or hit the Stop and Start button in the middle of an activity, the Moving Time should be very close or equal to Time.

Avg Moving Speed/Pace is based off the Moving Time value.

Elapsed Time

Garmin Connect calculates the Elapsed Time by the amount of time elapsed from the actual Start and Finish time of an activity. This is helpful for customers with a Garmin device that have AutoPause turned on or hit the Stop and Start button in the middle of an activity. For those who don't have AutoPause or have that feature turned off on their device, Elapsed time should be very close or equal to Time.

My Garmin Edge 705 has been doing this too since Feb 5th, 2014. It shows the correct average on my device (which is set at "custom speed - 3 mph")while riding, but after the upload, the Dashboard shows the riding time & elapsed time but uses the elapsed time for my overall average, not actual ride time!!!! Why did this suddenly change?? It's annoying to say the least!!

Doing same on my 305! Difference between moving time and time is incredible. I have turned the auto pause off all together yet it looks like i was not moving for nearly 3 hours yet the overall time was correct. Annoying and very weird!

Same problem here, garmin 305. Recently data is all messed up after upload, timing is incorrect compared to what the actual watch says. Upload data to dailymile and things are perfect. It appears to be a problem on garmin connect! Any known solutions, or is this a bug which is a result of the upcoming upgrades?

I've been having the same issue the last few days with my Forerunner 410.

Same problem for me. Very disappointing. I have a 410 too. How do you notify someone from Garmin to get this sorted?.

Also, the new Garmin Connect doesn't look to be picking up new records. I ran 4 miles further than my previous record today but the old record is still showing. Hopefully it is just teething problems for the new interface but you would have thought they would be able to get this stuff right....
  • Same problem with 405; Moving time is the same as elapse time. Notice lap times don't add up to the summary time. No issue when I load data to our sites such as Strava.

Same problem for me using a 405. Am very annoyed about it as no longer have accurate data from runs. All works fine on the watch and on upload it's showing the total amount of time and working pace out from that. I hope Garmin are going to fix it.

Garmin are aware of the issue [see the 'sticky' post on 'Time calculation issue' on the forum].
  • is there any textbox with information at what hour i have finished my activity? It should be the time (hour) of start of activity plus the elapsed time; but i have not see this information anywhere.
