New Garmin Connect iPhone App Sync Problems

So the new connect App is here. Looks smart.

However after today's ride there was no success uploading (Syncing) the new activity from the device (Edge 810).

Phone and Edge paired successfully and I have redone the pairing process to be sure. Also I have restarted both the Device and iPhone.

The little info bar at the bottom of the app screen says:

Syncing with Nick's 801

The soon after:

Sync Failed
Device Connection Error

Anyone else having the same problem?
  • Had a similar problem - iPhone 5, iOS 7, Garmin 510 ... the app and the 510 pair but when I try syncing, I got a failed message too. When I deleted all the rides from the 510, it seemed to upload a test ride I did. The data didn't show on the app - the home screen remained blank but the ride appeared on Garmin Connect. Go figure.

Haven't been able to get Live Track to work. Whenever I click on the link, the app crashes. Go figure.
  • OK. Deleted all activities from the 810 and then did a test activity of only a few seconds. It uploaded OK. So far so good.
Tried Livetrack as well and it seems to work OK also. Problem solved - For me, for now.
GARMIN - If this is a general workaround I suggest you put it in the release notes for others to use.

I am having exactly the same problems and haven't been able to get phone to synch or get live track to work. seem like the new version is filed with bugs. i guess we will have to wait for a bug fixed version.

    Bunnyfoo,

I'm also having the same issue with connecting Live Track for a ride. It connects successfully to my iPhone 5, but when I click to Live Track the app crashes and the phone and the 510 disconnect. I have just updated to v2.9 and I will try deleting all other activities on the 510 itself and see what happens on my next ride. It's frustrating indeed as my girlfriend and my parents usually Live Track me while i'm out on a ride. Not only for their peace of mind, but I consider it a good safety measure as well while i'm out on the road. Hopefully the issue will be rectified soon, but if it works after I delete all activities on the device itself then I guess i'll just do that until a fix is put in place. Good to know i'm not the only one experiencing the issues. Stay safe out there!

There was a blog from GARMIN that said to delete the app from your IOS device and then upload it again from the App store. This worked for me.

I did all that, delete apps, reboot iphone, install apps again, paired with Edge 510, see live track but after you log out and log in Live Track is no longer there.
  • Yes I am having the exact same problem.

i am having the same "Sync failed, Davice connection error" problem. I made sure the Garmin Edge 510 is up-to-date (2.9) and reinstalled the iPhone application. They pair, but when I try to upload a ride, automatically or manually, it fails with the above message.
When can we expect a fix? I am going on a trip, and was counting on the iPhone connection to upload each day's ride.

    Thanks,
    Daniel
  • I have the same issue with "upload failed" but it does seem to appear ok in connect on the website. It sometimes syncs, but generally fails at least 3 times if I keep trying. I now dont bother retrying as I know even on the first failure its actually worked.
