Loading a course from Garmin Connect
Former Member
I'm new to this device (Edge 810). I've created a course in Garmin Connect and I can't seem to get it to load to my device. Any ideas? I've taken the sd card out and checked that but to no avail. Garmin connect says that it has been sent to my device but I cannot find it in the workouts, courses, new files or anywhere.
The workaround is to connect the 810 via cable to a PC and drop the gpx or tcx file into the \\Garmin\NewFiles\ folder. It will then load as a course when you switch on.
ETA: actually, I'm not sure that exporting a course from GC is that straightforward. Suggest creating your course in ridewithgps or similar, or use an existing activity or gpx file.
I have been having this problem, as after I updated the software on my Garmin Edge 810 it has stopped transferring courses created on GC to the Edge 810. It says "Course successfully sent to device" but then it isn't there on the Edge. After re-loading the software on my home and work PCs and on the Edge I saw this post.
I have now got the course onto the Edge 810 by re-creating it on bikehike.co.uk, then exporting it as a .gpx file, then adding it to the Edge 810 by connecting the Edge to my PC with a USB cable, and dropping the .gpx file created on bikehike.co.uk into the "New Files" folder under "Garmin". I also added it into the "Courses" folder (desperation by this point), and it has come into the device successfully.
Joy! I've also logged a ticket with the Garmin support team.
Garmin responded to say there is a known issue with sending courses to devices. In short, GC is stuffed. Hope they sort quickly as this is the reason many of us have bought the edge.
Dear Garmin, I am pretty hacked off; having spent a lot of money buying a GArmin Touring edge to find i cannot design a course on Garmin connect and then send it (upload or is it Download) to my device. I specifically wanted this facility and was told that Touring Edge could do so. it really makes the thing useless for touring! Please advise whether you can sort it or not. Yours Unhappy Customer
