Issues with the premium Garmin heart rate monitor (soft strap)

Help please!
Because the "premium Garmin heart rate monitor (soft strap)" was giving erratic signals to the heart rate module I decided to make my own strap.
I used two sport "3MTm Red DotTm Adult Solid Gel Electrodes" with two ECG lead wires. As far as skin contact, these electrodes are some of the best and they are shower proof. To connect the lead wire from the electrodes to the monitor I soldered two "original PRY M 4GB" copper buttons to each end of the lead wires. This is the same way the monitor was connected to the soft Garmin strap. The only difference is that I used copper buttons. The monitor's battery is at 3V and the lead wire at the electrodes is at .266V. The 410 watch is now continuously searching for the heart rate monitor and doesn't receive any data from the module. Do you have any suggestions on why this is?
Thanks
Luke
