Forerunner 220 not detected anymore

Hi,

For the last two days I have tried to transfer my last run, without success. On Garmin Connect, the run would just seem to be uploading forever. Now the problems have somewhat worsened as I tried solving them myself... :(

Now, I looked into it more carefully and noticed the following :
1. If I tried manually updating activities, Connect would not detect any file on the watch (although I was well looking into the watch's drive). I looked into the watch, though, and all the activities are still there;
2. Express Fit said last transfer had failed and apparently would not try it again;
3. I tried removing the watch and replugging it again. For some reason, Windows 7 said the drives were being readied (app. translation from French, by the way), and it showed FR620, which is weird because I have a FR220;
4. I then tried suppressing the watch from Express Fit and pairing it again. But whatever I do now, my computer won't see it again (not even showing as USB drive) and Express Fit keeps saying it's searching for it.

Recap of specs : Windows 7 (64 bits), Chrome browser, Forerunner 220 recently updated with software v. 2.5, GPS v. 2.9.

Anyone can help me with this? Do I have to reboot the watch? I just wish I could save that last run, but if I can't do otherwise, oh well...

Thanks!

    Hi,
    I had the 'USB device could not be recognized' issue on my Forerunner 220 on a Windows 7 laptop as well. Downloaded new drivers etc. but no change. Strangely enough, what worked was talking a wet cloth and cleaning both the contact posts on the watch and on the charger. Maybe sweat/salt dries on the back of the watch after a run and blocks contact?? Maybe this was just coincidence, but something easy to try as opposed to resetting watches etc.

    Wow...last resort was to clean contacts...lo and behold, fixed the problem. I had downloaded software, master reset watch and then I saw this. Wow. Could have saved myself alot of grief had I read this comment first!!! Thank you.

    I had the problem where Windows 8 reported that the USB driver was not found, etc. I cleaned the metal contacts on the watch and cable and it works! I can't believe it!
  • Found this thread after 620 not being recognised for several days by PC. Cleaned contacts and it worked immediately. Great tip :)

    Quick Instructions to Address USB Connection Issues

    Good to be concise, short and clear
    Step 1: Clean the contacts - I use swabs and rubbing alcohol then water then alcohol again.
    Step 2: If step 1 does not work, soft reset the watch (see this thread)
    Step 3: If step 2 did not work, hard reset the watch (see this thread)

    In general it is a good practice to dry (clean) the watch after every workout, your sweat contains a lot of salt, which is corrosive for metal (contacts)

    Was about to return device due to "USB not recognized" issue. After reading these posts, I tried cleaning off the contacts on the back of the watch and reconnecting - VIOLA! It worked. The contacts on the back of the Garmin must accumulate salt, causing them not to communicate properly with the USB device.

    I'm on a Mac and had this same problem. Glad I saw your post because I wiped down the contacts and presto... it worked!

    Just wanted to state that cleaning the posts was the only thing I tried and it fixed it right away. Thank you for posting this!

    I had the same problem and then read that using rubbing alcohol on both the charging port and the ports on the watch would help. I took a q-tip and dipped it in the rubbing alcohol and scrubbed both ports, let it dry and then plugged it back into my computer, after about 10 seconds my computer recognized it and connected to garmin connect. I guess sweat can dry on the ports and disrupt the signal, and the rubbing alcohol helps get it off. Hope this helps!
