Forerunner 220 not detected anymore

Hi,

For the last two days I have tried to transfer my last run, without success. On Garmin Connect, the run would just seem to be uploading forever. Now the problems have somewhat worsened as I tried solving them myself... :(

Now, I looked into it more carefully and noticed the following :
1. If I tried manually updating activities, Connect would not detect any file on the watch (although I was well looking into the watch's drive). I looked into the watch, though, and all the activities are still there;
2. Express Fit said last transfer had failed and apparently would not try it again;
3. I tried removing the watch and replugging it again. For some reason, Windows 7 said the drives were being readied (app. translation from French, by the way), and it showed FR620, which is weird because I have a FR220;
4. I then tried suppressing the watch from Express Fit and pairing it again. But whatever I do now, my computer won't see it again (not even showing as USB drive) and Express Fit keeps saying it's searching for it.

Recap of specs : Windows 7 (64 bits), Chrome browser, Forerunner 220 recently updated with software v. 2.5, GPS v. 2.9.

Anyone can help me with this? Do I have to reboot the watch? I just wish I could save that last run, but if I can't do otherwise, oh well...

Thanks!

    UPDATE : I lost patience and did a hard reset of the watch. Computer still wouldn't detect it.

    Then I tried redownloading the USB drivers and rebooted computer. Nothing changed.

    Under Devices and Printers, though, when I look under USB Mass Storage Devices while the FR220 is plugged, Windows detects Garmin FR620 Flash USB Device and states it is functioning normally. Driver version is 6.1.7600.16385.

    My computer has no problem detecting any other USB device. *sigh* What's the problem?

    I have the exact same problem with my forerunner 620. I am running on windows 8 and since last update to software v. 2.5 I am not able to connect my device to the pc. I am very frustrated about that!!

    did you guys try a master reset? I had the same problem yesterday with my FR 220, found a video on youtube "how to master reset Garmin Forerunner 210" and decided to give it I try as a last resort, and IT WORKED! USB working fine, connection to garmin.conect fine! ;) (yes, you will lose all workouts not updated)

    I did, but it is still the same... My computer says that the device has not been recognized and treat it as a flash drive with no capacity. I reinstalled USB garmin software and Express fit, but no improvements...

    Well... after trying a master reset and making sure I had all drivers and software up to date, it would still not work.

    But then today I was like, 'hey, let's plug it in for fun', and it worked. :eek:

    So everything's fine now, I just can't tell why. Adam Vasko, all I can say is, 1. do the master reset, 2. update everything and 3. give your watch a few days break and it should be ok. Most probably (though it sucks to have to go through all this).

    The poor little things, they must be overworked with all our running all the time.

    EDIT: Ok, problem is definitely the 2.5 update. My watch wanted to install it when I unplugged it (which doesn't make much sense but anyway), I said yes and now it goes undetected again. I really don't know how to get out of it, except by not installing the version 2.5 software.

    Thanks for the tip :)

    I also tried the master reset (2nd time), reinstall express fit and USB garmin drivers, restarted my pc and then it worked. But today I tried to connect it again and it goes undetected again...

    Looks like it is the 2.5 update as you say. I think we can just hope they will make a soon update. I have no idea how to downgrade it to 2.4

    EDIT: I haven't noticed the message you sent me earlier. Thanks and I will try it!

    EDIT2: I tried a simple thing. When I plug in my 620 it is considered as a removable device (with no memory on it). So I went to the "Devices and Printers" in Control panel, found the device, right click and chose "Remove device" (you need to have a administrator rights to do that). One second after I deleted the device computer detected forerunner 620 as it should (no re-plugging). I am running on windows 8 pro 64bit.

    Hi,
    I had the 'USB device could not be recognized' issue on my Forerunner 220 on a Windows 7 laptop as well. Downloaded new drivers etc. but no change. Strangely enough, what worked was talking a wet cloth and cleaning both the contact posts on the watch and on the charger. Maybe sweat/salt dries on the back of the watch after a run and blocks contact?? Maybe this was just coincidence, but something easy to try as opposed to resetting watches etc.

    Thanks for the advice, and glad that worked for you. Unfortunately, that can't be it for mine, because I finally had it changed, and the new watch has the exact same problem, but it works just fine on my wife's MacBook (that's my only solution, it seems).

    Must be my computer in some way... :\

    Thanks for posting! I was just starting to freak out as my computer wouldn't recognize my watch, and I saw this and cleaned the connectors and voila! It works!
