Garmin connect no longer calculating time correctly if start/stop watch?

Just nothing something odd.

I did a 10km run and the time on the watch was showing as 50:13.

I checked on Garmin Training Centre and this shows exactly the same time.

I then uploaded the route to Garmin Connect website and now it shows Time = 52:05, Moving Time = 52:01 and Elapsed Time - 52:05.

Having checked the TCX files, they clearly have 2 sections where the watch was stopped and restarted, as 2 points on the route crossing a road and waiting for traffic lights to change!

Looking in the TCX files when the watch was stopped it clearly shows a </TRACK> and a <TRACK> when restarted again. The times of the 2 gaps add up to just under 2 minutes.

I am sure I have had plenty of runs before when I have stopped the watch to cross roads etc, but has something changed on Garmin connect how the files are analysed now?

I've experienced similar issue during the last few runs. The data/calculation on my Forunner 410 is correct. However when it gets loaded to Garmin Connect, it's all messed up. It looks like Garmin Connect uses the elapsed time to calculate average speed instead of the actual running time.

I had to manually edit the running time in Garmin Connect. Then the average speed looks better but is still wrong.

Ideally Garmin team should run a batch job to recalculate all the activities since the buggy update when they have a fix.

So its a Garmin issue then, at least I found out I can still add up :)

Not got a workaround, but I'd hope to at least be able to re-import the dodgy runs when they fix it.

I hope this is fixed asap - the data is incorrect when you upload it. The info remains correct ON my watch but syncing and sharing the run with my friends (if they ran with me and don't have a watch) doesn't show the correct info now. I am not pleased about this, as I have a marathon to run this weekend. I guess I will just try to edit the info after I upload it, as long as you still CAN.
  • Work around is simple.

Once you have uploaded the run goto "advanced edit" and you can change the duration of the run to match the time on the watch.

The splits remain incorrect, but the overall time and average are then correct.
  • Thanks for the tip. For those like me who don't normally edit - select the activity in question from the "analyse/activities" menu then click the pencil icon (when the page loads) - full edit

Not really the point though. Garmin are really dragging their heels on fixing this properly and its frustrating. I presume that the issue was introduced as part of the changes that are coming to Garmin Connect in the near future. Perhaps they can run a proper beta trial next time rather than using the live site. Its not like its an obscure issue is it. Grrrr.

This works for activities done with my Edge705. Unfortunately for those uploaded from my 910XT averages are not corrected despite using the full editing option :(
