I apologize if this information is readily available online but I haven't been able to find it. I was wondering what the sensitivity and chipset are for the Garmin GPSMAP 62s? My reason for asking is that I need to purchase several cheap, mobile, and discreet GPS loggers (e.g. one of the 4/5 star units here: http://www.canadagps.com/KB_04.html) to track the movements of hunters in Southwest China. I can't give them full GPS units because it's prohibitively expensive and most of these hunters are illiterate and don't know how to reliably operate electronics. I'd rather give them a simple unit that just turns on and off and passively records GPS waypoints or a track with a duty cycle of 30-60 minutes.
My concern with these cheap small units is twofold: reception and battery life. The GPSMAP 62s worked excellently at my field site, so I'm hoping that a small logger with similar sensitivity should work. It seems like all of these small loggers have either an MTK II or SIRF 4 chipset. I know virtually nothing about electronics, so if there are other things I should be (more) concerned about I'd be thankful for your insight!
