Garmin Connect on Chromebook

While I realize that a Chromebook cannot install software and therefore lacks the ability to add either the Communicator app or Ant-Agent, I have always been able to upload via another computer and still be able to access everything on my Chromebook. However, today the connect website came up and it looked incredibly weird. The formatting was all off with the tabs in a list format and there were random messages in the margins saying something to the effect of communicator is not compatible with my browser. Was there some sort of update recently that would make Chrome suddenly not compatible with the website at all? I am not so concerned about uploading anything but it has always worked fine to view activities and share workouts. Now it most definitely is not. Anyone else having similar issues?
  • I'm replying to this since I'm using a Chromebook as well. I also verified a similar phenomenon on my iPad using Safari and Chrome browsers. My issue: When I'm logged into Garmin Connect I cannot view the maps, charts and graphs associated with my activities. However, when I copy the URL of that specific activity, sign out of connect and then paste that url into the same browser, I can see the charts and graphs just fine (my activities are publicly viewable). How is it possible for me to see it in the same browser when signed out but not when signed in? Most of the page loads and the information on the left is there, but the "map containers" are blank when I'm signed in and display properly when I'm signed out. This is true when I'm in my Chromebook and on my iPad. Any help is much appreciated. I'd like not to have to sign in and then sign out to view my activity.

    HOW ABOUT THIS, GARMIN:

ALL OF US WITH CHROMEBOOKS & MACS DITCH GARMIN CONNECT AND FIND SOMEONE WHO DOES AND WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT US.
INCLUDING IN-CLOUD BIKE ODOMETERS FOR MULTIPLE BIKES; SHOE MILAGE TRACKER; AND FULL CHROMEBOOK SUPPORT.

THIS IS INEXCUSABLE. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU GARMIN. YOU NEED TO DO BETTER W. INTERNET SOFTWARE - OR ELSE.

    CONSIDER, USERS: MAYBE EVEN POLAR.

REALLY ALL YA GOTTA DO IS HIRE ANOTHER COMPANY WHO can WRITE THE KIND OF SOFTWARE NEEDED AND CRAWL BACK UNDER YOUR HARDWARE ROCK.
    SHAME.
  • My work inter / intranet blocks Garmin Express so I can't sync there. All I have at home is a Chromebook. My Moto X phone has constant sync / pair issues. I'm ultra-annoyed at both Garmin AND Google. You'd think they would be able to figure this out pretty easily since they have global staffs and market capitalization of $11.7 and $190 BILLION. Are they waiting for some user to check out their API and just do it for them???

Same problem here. I ditched Windows 2 years ago and have used a Chromebook since then for all my work. Very disappointed to see that Garmin doesn't support Chromebooks.
  • me too. Garmin, where's the chromebook support??

  • Aw, I feel really disappointed. Sure I didn't do my homework, but, anyway.

I have an ancient Timex Ironman watch and the battery is dead. I'm wondering how a completely isolated standalone FR15 will be substantially different? With a chromebook I don't seem to really have any option to use my FR15 much more than that ol' Ironman. I'm complaining alot here, I just unwrapped it. I'll give it a couple of days to see what it can do all isolated and alone. Maybe I'll see the addon value of it.

Do you have a friend with a PC or Mac, Maybe one at work? Something you can use to sync, in other words.
  • Actually for a Chromebook user the FR15 is substantially different from an old Timex in that there is manual "import" on the Garmin connect site. So runs can be uploaded. Though the FR15 cannot have any firmware updates or other syncs. Just straight file transfer *.fit up to the Garmin Connect site. So there is that.
  • Using my Chromebook, I've figured out how to manually load all of my "activities" (the Garmin .fit file) from my FR15 to Garmin connect.
Using my Chromebook, I've also figured out how to manually upgrade my FR15 "Firmware" (the Garmin .rgn file) for the device.

Garmin Express and Chromebooks are not compatible as far as I can tell. However, everything one can do with a Apple/Microsoft product and Garmin Express can be done manually with just the FR15 and my chromebook. As far as I can tell. YMMV.
