Cannot Upload .fit file from Edge 800 ver 2.70 to Garmin Connect

Hello,

I have a 328 kb session (.fit) that I cannot upload using either the automated method "upload all new activities" or the manual download method.

Results:
1) "Upload all new activities" = simply hangs. A connection to a23-214-14.235.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com is established, sends information, but connection eventually hangs.
2) Manual method = results in "Some activities could not be created". I verified that this session is not listed in my list of activities. In other words, upload failed.

The session recorded a 3.5 hour bike ride with heart rate and power meter information. All other sessions uploaded successfully, except this one, which is an important one as it is my personal performance baseline.

I appreciate your help in advance,
James
  • Sometimes it seems Garmin Connect balks at uploading a file if it doesn't find certain records in it. About the only way to know for sure is post your activity file here or in one of the threads in the 800 forum where people ask to have their .fit file repaired. Then someone may look at it and fix it for you. I don't have anything to look at it though.

Sometimes the other sites like Strava are able to successfully upload your activity when GC can't. Not always, but sometimes, and in that case you can export the activity from them then manually upload that file to GC.
  • Hello VoiceResponse,

Your suggestion worked! I uploaded the file to Strava, which worked immediately. Next, I exported the file from Strava and uploaded into GarminConnect.

I'm moving on to using Strava exclusively. The analysis functionality, not to mention the robustness of the website, was worth my $59 / year membership. Thanks!

This worked for me! Thank you, VOICERESPONSE :)
  • I have a fit file from my Edge 800 which is not accepted by garmin connect, nor by strava. How can this be fixed?

The file is corrupt, so try one of the online fit file repair tools such as FIT File Tools using the section remover with no adjustments. If that doesn't work, you can post it here so we can attempt to repair it. Use one of the following methods to share your file:

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Zip the file, then drag and drop it onto a reply post.
    • Upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDriveGoogle DriveDropbox, etc., then post a link to the file in your post.
  • My Garmin battery appeared to die as it was uploading to the phone at the end of a ride. Garmin Express would not recognise the format, nor would Strava when I was trying to import manually. Found this FIT File Tools link above and hey presto, what magic is this ? Cheers !!
