Hide Map from Workouts shared in Garmin Connect?

Someone asked this about social media, but I'm wondering if there is any way to hide the map from a workout that is shown to connections/groups in Garmin Connect itself. For example, just have the stats shown but not the map of where you actually ran or biked. I'm guessing there's not a way - since I saw where you could change the privacy of all the data shown but not parts of it. Thanks!

I want to do the same thing --disable the map view- but there's doesn't seem to be a way to do so. If I set the privacy to "only me," it hides the stats as well as the map. So, I'm going to call Garmin Product Support at U.S. Toll-free: 800-800-1020 to suggest this as an option. I will also go to [ and you should too] Garmin.com ...click on support, go all the wany down to the bottom left hand side of the page and click on "contact us." Then under the heading "Submit Feedback" click on "Have an idea?" and this pulls up a page that goes to the tier II support engineers. Below is what I sent them:

In Garmin Connect, we need to be able to "disable" the maps on any workout without disabling the stats view. For example, I do a lot of runs , rides etc... at or close to my house. For security reasons, I don't was anyone to see my house on Google maps or to see the streets in my neighborhood. You need to create an option to "disable maps" both on an individual workout basis and an over all " "disable all maps" basis.
    Thanks

I don't have that level of paranoia...

its not paranoia to not want to share with total strangers your home address. Everyone can expect privacy.

That's a good idea - if there was a way to just hide the display route inside a certain perimeter.

I try to stop/start my activities at the end of my street for privacy reasons, but sometimes I'll forget and go right up to my front door before realizing I didn't stop recording...which literally shows the route into your doorway (especially since Google thought it'd be a good idea to model buildings/houses on their maps).

Only solution is use a third-party application to trim the file, which is a pain.
  • This is exactly how Strava implements it. A 500m or so bubble.

Great for those of us with valuable bikes locked away or those that don't want anyone to know they're out

Geofences are available in privacy settings on the GC website. The option isn’t available in the app.
  • Thank you so much!! That was most helpful!
