Communicator ActiveX Plugin loaded but not found

On the Edge 810 support page when I click the "Detect Devices" button I am taken to the page to "Install Garmin Communicator Plugin". This despite the fact that I have already loaded it and it shows in my "add-ons" list as currently loaded and enabled.
My system meets the requirements given: Windows Vista Home Premium, IE 9, and current Windows Media Player, and my 810 is plugged into a USB port.

After spending nearly an entire day yesterday searching this forum and others for a solution, I need help. I have removed and reinstalled the ActiveX control and rebooted my computer countless times. I've checked my "Internet options" page, have listed all sorts of version of garmin.com as "Trusted sites" (*.garmin.com, http://*.garmin.com, http://my.garmin.com, http://support.garmin.com).

I have read some things about doing a registry clean up, but have not done that.

Help would be VERY much appreciated!!
  • I have that happen occasionally, it's been quite a few years ago though. I just went ahead and let it re-install it and then went on about my business.

Are you also having other issues such as not being able to upload to GC or anything that need Garmin Communicator?

I can't use ANYTHING that connects to the Garmin with Communicator (thought about upgrading from 2.6 on my 810, but not possible) I load .tcx files onto my device by just copying them to "New Files" since it's the only way I can get them there.

As far as "just let it re-install" - I've reinstalled literally dozens of times, and it continually says I don't have it. Very frustrated with this and quite a few other issues with this device. (tcx files should give me my custom cues from ridewith gps, but they don't - that's for another forum...)
  • Might be best just to call Garmin Support and have them walk you through all the different things that may be causing the issue. You're not sitting behind an overly stringent firewall are you?

Turned my Windows Firewall completely off and got the same result. Will try Garmin Support call tomorrow; thanks for trying.

I've spoken with a very helpful person at Garmin support today, and after loading Google Chrome I can communicate with my device. Evidently there have been some issues with IE connecting (though usually with IE 11, if I understand correctly.
