Device settings via Garmin Connect

Hello,
I'm using Garmin devices since years, I started with Forerunner 301, then 305, 310xt and now I'm using three(!!!) devices: 910xt, edge 810 and fenix! so the first question I have is when do i get an award? ;-)

Something I'm missing in the really good software is the ability to do the device settings on the PC and send them to the watch or whatever (before I started my garmin-era I used the suunto x6hr which had this feature). especially for the fenix it's quite tricky to "navigate" through all the menus, but even for the forerunner and the edge it would be far easier and practic do the settings on a wide screen using mouse and keyboard instead of the small display....

On the edge I can define various bikes and profiles, but as soon as i send the activities to GC these informations are lost. They would be really interesting like the shoe-input that's already foreseen!

I'm looking forward to see these updates in the next future :-)

anyway, compliments for the whole system, I'm a big fan!

  • It annoys me too! I've sent Garmin similar request before and I think this was the subject of my 'ranting' days when I started on the forum. It is just inconceivable to me that there is no functionality to fully configure your device from your pc/mac, where you can use a real keyboard.

I encourage you to send your suggestion to Garmin through this link -> http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

It would be nice in GC to have our bike profiles stored and even be able to track miles on individual bikes. Similar to how people like to track shoes and other equipment. But they don't and for a free site, I guess I can't complain too much. Though it seems like an easy thing to add, might be some legal or patent issue involved.

FWIW, you can use Garmin Training Center on a PC/Mac to configure some of the information for the bike profiles. Garmin has discontiued support for it, but it's still available for free download.
  • All the settings are stored in the SETTINGS.FIT file on the device, it may be possible to upload that file to Garmin Connect, make the changes there and push it back to the device. One more thing to add to the list of desireable feature, along with equipment tracking, open API, etc.
