How do I create new Activity Types that don't exist in the pull down?

I can't believe some of the random Activity Types that exist in the pull down, yet it omits completely legit athletic activities like Basketball, Football, and Soccer. How about Martial Arts, Backpacking, or Jai Alai? Or more specific mountain biking activities like Single Track, All Mountain, or Cross Country?
I'm sure there has to be a way to add these, but it is definitely escaping me.
Thanks in advance.
  • Really? Nothing? None of the 29 people that have viewed this have any idea? I understand that this may be a dumb question, but isn't that what forums are for? Share your knowledge!
    Thanks again.

Simple answer: You can't. It is not possible to edit the activity types on Garmin Connect.
  • Thank you for your response, Craig.

Wow. That's really stupid. Typical corporate nonsense. C'mon, Garmin. We paid the crazy money for your product. Give us the software/support we deserve.

I requested this ability to add Basketball and other activities in the past but so far to no avail. It would be simple enough to add the feature. Developers could also simply populate the drop down fields pretty easily in an update. Basketball should be a no brainer but the developers may feel that there is not enough interest to warrant adding the additional line of text to the drop down menus.
  • There is a lot more to it than just adding a line of text to a drop-down menu. It would require changes to the published web service, and once it was added there would be a cascade of features that users would expect.
  • Lol. Yeah. Heaven forbid Garmin listens to and/or lives up to its user's expectations. There was all this hype here a while back about the "new web experience coming soon", and all that's changed is the login screen, as far as I can see. Garmin Connect should have never happened if they didn't want to deal with any "user expectations".

Whatever. It does GPS mapping and tracks my heart rate (most of the time) which is what I bought it for. Corporate inaction just leaves room for someone else to do it better and pass you by.
  • I agree that we need to have Basketball added. It's amazing that we pay all the $'s for all the Garmin devices yet, it can't be added? Funny how MyFitness Pal allows for this, Garmin syncs with it and yes, they have Basketball!!! Come on guys, playing hoops is not uncommon!
  • It's not just adding an item to a pull down menu. It's also defining things like the calorie burn for that activity, and fining a way to integrate that profile into the device.

It's much harder than making 10 full-court baskets in a row....

This devices are built with specific activities in mind (mainly running, walking, cycling, and in some cases swimming).

If an activity is added, it should be Bowling, as far more people bowl than play basketball! :)
