Cycle Route

Hi new member here, Not had my garmin edge 800 long. 1)When using garmin connect to create a new cycle course the system always takes the course on to main roads and not cycle friendly routes. Why is this? Is it something I am doing wrong?
2) I can download routes from strava to my edge 800 but how do i get the routes then from my edge to garmin connect?

I've found that none of the sites do everything I want. So I find that I use three different sites, and I'm not a seriously into fitness or biking. You can't upload a route or course to GC AFIK. But if you've ridden that course, you can create a course on Garmin Connect from that activity very easily. There may be some work-a-rounds that convert your course into an activity then you can upload it. But they are likely a more effort than it's worth.
