Lexar 16GB microSDHC card

My 3590LMT screen froze up and stopped showing the rest of the map when viewing the units 2013.3 map when using BaseCamp on my Windows XP Laptop. Will installing a 16 GB Lexar microSDHC card into the 3590 help?
What is a microSD card used for?
