Sort out how personal bests are recorded

I have just moved from Endomondo, where even though I may run a 5k run, if one of my 1k splits is a personal best, it will record it. I rarely go out to do a 1k run, but it would be nice to see when I have reached a 1k personal best while doing a 5k run for example, or push myself to do a 7k run, because I feel I can, but if the first, middle, or latter 5k is a personal best, it should calculate it.

This is the biggest feature that I have missed from Endomondo, and is sort of a deal killer. (I left them for other reasons). I shouldn't have to stop at 5k, press stop, hold reset, and then start again to get a run recorded as a personal best if I want to run further.

    Agreed!!
  • I can understand why people want this but I feel that Connect operates more like setting PR's in real events - i.e. you can't set a PB for 5K if you are in a 10 K race. If Garmin change it it would be nice to have it as an option as I don't like the way Strava for instance give me a 1K pb for a 1 KM downhill part of a longer run which bears no resemblance to my real 1K PB
  • My last 5K race was inaccurate measured, so it was 5.2K race. And personal best wasn't counted automatically. When I added it manually it assigned total time of 5.2K to 5K PR. So I have to manually calculate data for first 5K and put it as a PR. Super inconvenient.
  • Well.. it can at least advise to set a PR and if you don't want to set it - just reject PR. At the moment I have to press PR button manually.
Again, very few people actually do Cooper test, but it can be taken from other (even longer) runs.

Yeh, I was having this issue today. I ran a 10k, but PB'd my 5k on the way, and it doesnt recognise the PB since I didnt stop the watch at 5k. Seems silly. If it has to be entered manually for this then fine, but Id expect the system to be smart enough to cross reference the standard PB distances with each run, regardless of what distance it ended.

Please add this Garmin. It cant be that hard.

Its absurd really...It even states my longest run is 26km, yet says I have no PB for a half marathon!

+1. i've noticed that edge 510 has such feature, could implement that on server side, so that the old device could take advnatage from it.
  • First sorry for necroing, but this is obviously still ongoing issue... rather quite inconvenient for most people using Garmin stats.

Ha, today I ran 24km and I even created manually one lap at 21,5km because on the way I realized this is going to be my PB.
System hasn't recognized it even tho I beat my old PB.

    Now, I don't even have good 1km splits, I have one 2,5km and one 21,5km split :) .
Nonetheless, I selected this activity as my best 1/2 marathon.

I just hope that Garmin will introduce auto-recognizing PB system sometime soon.

Some time ago while I was still carrying my mobile phone on the runs (using Endomondo), Endomondo would even notice me during the run that I beat some of mine PB's.
Would be mighty fine if that can happen with Garmin.
  • PR's are working fine for me as of yesterday. I did a 5k (distance was right at 3.10 miles) and automatically got a new PR for both 5k and fastest mile. For a 5k, for example, you have to be pretty close to 5.0k for it to count. And that means the whole activity, not just a lap. The Fastest 1m seems to be any "lapped" 1 mile, as I got a new PR for this in a 5k, with a 1m auto-lap (my record was the first mile/lap.).

Now in the case yesterday, as soon as I saved the activity, my forerunner 15 flashed "new record!", and then I could scroll thru the new new ones, but an hour so so later when I synced, they also showed in Connect. So the FR15 was the one that caught the new record first.

AFAIK, you have the option to accept (or not) all personal bests before they are added to your stats. So if you feel you don't want to have the 1km downhill stretch you mentioned as your PB, you can reject it when it is suggested.
