location location location

Hi, This is probably the wrong area of the wrong forum but here goes
I use Garmin connect on my macbook pro and my edge 800

I live in Doha so searching for addresses won't work - as they don't really do addresses here
I can go somewhere and then record it as a location but you can only do that once you are there.

I want to be able to record locations on the computer at home and then send them to the edge 800 then I can go randomly cycling, get lost and then go to a specific location. Track back or go home doesn't really work for this

Questions are
1 Can you?
2 How?

    Yes, it can be done.

    I like BikeHikeUK
    http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php
If you zoom into Doha, you will see a map of the city. Click on where you are and construct a route. Click Save, and download it in format to suit your 800. I'd use TCX if I were you.

Connect your 800 to your computer and transfer the file into Garmin/Courses, and you'll create a course to follow.

You'll see a pink line to follow on the map, and the courses page will show you the mileage to be done and a goal time. You can use Virtual Partner too.
By varying the speed of the route when you download it, you can alter how fast your VP rides.

Although I've never used an 800, I had a 305 and a 705 for many years and they both worked like that. I now have a Montana and although there isn't a courses page, the rest of the system works the same way.

    Hope that helps.
It's a very simple answer to your question and a very simple method to use ............ but it works very well indeed.

You don't have to follow the route of course, but it's still there and you can see where the end is and aim at it by whatever route you chose.

    Regards,
    Mick
