How to record a Personal record

Hi there

I'm am looking for someone to explain to me how the Personal record function on Garmin Connect works.

Like does it automatic pull a record from a run, or do I have to set i myself?

Can it pull a record on ex. 5 km. from a 9 km run?

If I have to only do a 5 km run to get the 5 km Personal Record, what about Wormup and Cooldown, can i have them in my training?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated :-)

Best Regards

    From my experience using Garmin Connect over the last couple of years, the personal records are pulled straight from any activities you upload and if you beat your best you confirm on the dashboard if you want to except the latest activity as the current best.

    I haven't been able to pull a segment from a run or cycle to use as a personal record, you have to actually record an activity at that specific distance for it to count as a personal record, which is slightly annoying. I also don't like how there are no swim records available :mad:

    Tag partial workouts for a personal record

    The way I have dealt with this is to click the little gold and blue medal/ribbon on the activity choose the PR type (i.e. 1k, 5k, etc...). Then I mouse over the graphs to find the point of with I am interested in. Say I want to use the 5k point I mouse over the distance graph to where 5k was completed, then note the time.

    Now you go back to the dashboard and you can click your cursor into the personal record field (i.e. time or distance). What is there initially is the total time/distance of the work you previously chose. You can type in a your noted time from the above step. Voila. You have the PR for the time run that is a subset of the whole workout. Tis cumbersome but it works. Would be nice if they would automatically pull this data from your workouts. Nike's website will do this as well as Smashrun.
  • Thanks

    Thanks for your comments, they definitely gave me some god pointers to how i can use the service.
    Let's hope they get around to make a more automatic way for the server to automatic take the best records from a new run. But until that, I will use your suggestions :-)

    Have a great day..

    I am using fenix 2 and I had a tough workout yesterday (for me):

    Mile Repeats: 7 miles w/3x1 mile @ 8:20
    * 1 mile worm up
    * 3x (1 mile @8:20 + 0.5 recovery)
    * 1 mile cool down

    I am not the fastest runner, but I was happy to have run one mile @8:12 :cool: and I was expecting both my 1k and 1mile records to be updated...
    Hasn't happened...

    I tried to manually replace my existing 1 mi personal record (PR).
    From the Trophy Case
    * Hit the "+"
    * Hit "Browse Activities"
    * No activities are displayed... "Sorry. We did not find any results from your search. Try again.":confused:

    From the activity itself
    I click the "Trophy" icon... but it is asking me if I want to replace:
    * 1 mile in 10m00s, to
    * 1 mile in 1h09m33s... I just can't click OK. :mad:

    I just find odd that I have to run only 1 mile to have a PR assigned...
    It seems that I am not the only one and I would love an update from Garmin, as I love their products!
