Garmin Heart Rate Training ZONES are 5, why do I have 6?

Hi,
I used polar before and Max HR always was in Zone 5.
Garmin connect shows Max HR in zone 6 because It shows 6,0 z. Is it correct?

Is it mean to be this way?
why?

    Go to Settings -> Training zones. http://connect.garmin.com/settings/zones
    Then you can add or remove as many heart rate zones as you want, or adjust the ranges for them.

    Thanks, but I have 5 zones and MaxHR 185 that you can see here: http://screencast.com/t/cP0pt7gb3KEb
    Why shows Garmin Connect 6 zones when I came to my Max HR 185? (6,0 z)

    I will really apreciate an answer, thanks.
  • There are only five zones on your pic. Look to the right of the columns.

    Your zones need a min and max range. Therefore for any number of zones you want, the number of boxes required will be: qunitity of zones + 1 .

    Not sure about your original post's pic though. How do you have the zones defined on your device? I exceed my Max HR quite often, and I'm only shown as being in zone 5.
  • I just noticed you don't have a resting HR value. That may be causing a glitch in the calculations that's giving you zone 6 in the details.
  • Okay, now I'm going to have to take back everything I've said. I found that my activities also show a zone 6 for max in the details. How humiliating :mad:;):o
    There are many different ways to do HR zones. So maybe GC uses the one were if you exceed max HR you get max number of zones + 1.

    Thanks for your answer, I will ask Garmin because it is confuse to have 5 training zones in Garmin Connect and 6 zones simultaneously when I use the watch. :confused:

    Here is the question in a picture:
  • I don't think there is anything wrong with the data or graphs on Garmin Connect. It seems to me that you are making a fence post error. The data in your attached image (summarized below) seems to be consistent with this.

    # numbers below are in BPM
    Z1 = [92,111)
    Z2 = [111,129)
    Z3 = [129,148)
    Z4 = [148,166)
    Z5 = [166,190)

    You have 5 zones which are bounded by 6 fence post values. Those fence posts are 92, 111, 129, 148, 166 and 190 and they are represented by the horizontal lines on the line graph.

    Assuming your maximum heart rate value is correct, it is theoretically impossible for you to get your heart rate up to or beyond that value. If you do manage to get a heart rate reading above your maximum, the maximum value you entered is wrong or your equipment is malfunctioning.

  • Thanks TRAVIS.VITEK, I understand now. I used Polar products many year and it is some different.

    By the way, I use another nickname now.
    Why Do Garmin Forum banned me? It was only a question. :(

    Regards,

    My guess was that a moderator banned you in error. I've done it a few times myself (maybe it was I). :( Only admins and Garmin employees can have you unbanned. Glad you found your way back on the forum.

    How do you remove HR zones? I can't get my zones to upload to my device because my 500 only accepts 5, but in Connect I can't get less than 7. I do not see a way to remove zones. Please help.
  • I know they used to support adding and removing zones, but I don't recall how to do it. It was fairly obvious. Regardless, if you need 5 zones, you should be able to use this web form to do it. I created it a while back when you couldn't edit your training zones at all, but it should allow you to add/remove zones as you see fit. It isn't as user-friendly as it could be, but it does work and only took a few minutes to create.

    If you have questions, feel free to ask.
