Uploading Workouts to Garmin Connect

I posted this to the Forerunner 620 message boards, but it looks like this board may more appropriate.

Hi,

I'm new to Garmin with the Forerunner 620. I use TrainingPeaks for those of you who are familiar, and I have workout plans that are compatible with Garmin devices, they have .tcx files that can be imported to Garmin devices. I have downloaded them as a .tcx file and have been successful importing them into the Garmin Training Center (which I'm guessing is the old software prior to Garmin Connect), and from the Garmin Training Center I was able to get the workouts imported into the Forerunner 620 watch itself. My problem is that I can't get these workouts exported to Garmin Connect online. I have tried exporting them from The Garmin Training Center as both .tcx and .gpx files, but when I try to upload them to Garmin Connect via the manual upload, I get an error message: "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again." My past activities uploaded just fine, just not the future workouts I would like to have displayed on the calendar. I have also tried uploading directly from the watch itself, but it doesn't seem to allow uploading workouts, just activities. And just to be clear, by "workouts" I don't mean past runs, I mean future scheduled workouts that appear on my calendar in the Garmin Training Center and in the watch itself.

Anybody have any clues? Or is it just not possible to upload workouts to Garmin Connect, i.e. do I have to manually create every workout online even though the files obviously exist and work on my watch and the Garmin Training Center?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Scotty

Did you ever get this sorted?

I just bought the 620 to replace my 405. I attempted to use Garmin Training Center to import the same training plan I had in my 405 into my 620. While the workouts imported fine from GTC to the 620, the 620 crashes when I try to use a scheduled workout.

Garmin tech support says I have to use Garmin Connect, but I can't figure out how to upload a custom training plan to Garmin Connect.

This is very frustrating for such an expensive watch.

I am in the same boat. I have lots of customized training workouts that exist on my watch and the old Garmin Training Center and I want to finish my migration to Garmin Connect. I have also tried the manual upload of the (planned) workout in both .tcx and .gpx formats and get the same error as OP.

Any thoughts/advice. I really would hate to have to recreate 20 custom interval workouts!
  • There is currently no way to upload the workouts to Garmin Connect.

If you have coding chops, you might be able to write something to convert from this to this. Once you have the second format, getting it uploaded to the service should be trivial.

And recreating 20 workouts wouldn't be all that bad. I created 291 of them when I started using Garmin Connect. Ugh.
