Edit you Garmin Swim Data free online

HI,

I'm a Garmin Swim user and also a programmer. As many of you, I sometime have inaccuracies in my data. For me, it's mostly an extra lap now and then. It usually happens when swimming in a crowded lane, and I have to switch from freestyle to breaststroke to look for an opportunity to pass. As a result, distance, average speed, and maximum speed metrics will be affected. I used to wish I could just merge two lengths within Garmin Connect and get more accurate data. Since GC doesn't provide this feature (yet), I decided to make my own tool. It is working great for me, so I decided to add splitting length, changing stroke style and pool size, and added a web interface to it. It's free as long as hosting cost are reasonable. Feel free to try it and let me know what you think.

Garmin Communicator plugin is required and you'll have to be able to manually upload an activity file to Garmin Connect. I explain how to do it on the web site.

  • Hi erunnermt,
Thought I'd post this here rather then the Fenix 3 page, used the Triathlon feature today for the first time for a sprint event with a pool swim, whilst the F3 has performed almost flawlessly in the pool thus far, today I had three 'laps' that need splitting and it even thought I did a length of fly!!

The issue is when i 'export original' I get a fit file for all 5 activities in the tri (includes 2 transitions) and this is not accepted by your excellent tool- link below, any suggestions welcome on how to get a fit file of just the swim?!

    Cheers

  • Hi,

My tool doesn't support Fénix 3 yet. I have to get a few files form a few users before supporting a new device, and I couldn't get enough fenix 3 files. It seems the fenix 3 is not used very much for Lap swimming. I'll send you a private message where you can send me files if you want to help. (I cannot access the files from the link you provided)

Also, unfortunately, I've decided not to support editing multi-activity files. Because there are more challenging, and it doesn't happen very often that you'll have triathlon with the swim part in a pool.

    Hi Erunnrtmtl,

Why do you say that "My tool doesn't support Fénix 3 yet" ?
It works fine with the data from my F3 :)
  • In fact, the latest watches from Garmin (FR920, VivoActive, and Fenix 3) all seem to use same file format, so what works for one, works for the others. The web site now supports all of them.

    Hello erunnermtl,

I just bought my wife the Garmin Swim and while setting it up I noticed it doesn't allow for a pool as small as ours. We have a 40' (12 meters) pool and she swims 2+ miles a day in the summer. I noticed within your website that we can change the pool length, is that to any length or still within Garmin's limits? I know I will find out when I try it, but my patients and knowledge run out rather quickly when dealing with computers so if there's a trick to it please let me know. If it has to stay with Garmin's sizing, would the best way to do it be to double the length setting to 24 meters and then double the final number of lengths? Any help would be appreciated and thank you for your time and what looks like an excellent resource.

  • Hi,

The lower limit on the watch is 17 meters. The reason for this limit is that Garmin has established that the algorithm they are using is not reasonably accurate for most users in small pools. They could have allowed lower pool sizes with a warning that it might not work, But they've decided not to.

Personally, I wouldn't use the watch below Garmin's limits, because I couldn't live with the watch making too many mistakes. I like the Garmin Swim because it is quite accurate, and I also like my tool, because it allows me to edit the occasional mistake.

That being said, my tool allows you to set pool size to any value. It allows you to work around Garmin's limits. As you suggested, you could set pool size to twice the actual value, and edit it afterward with my tool. but I still think it would be inconvenient to do this every time you swim. But if you don't mind, it will work.

Thank You. Great job. You did what garmin connect didn't...
  • Brilliant

    Brilliant tool!
Works well on my F3 file of today ... my last 2 laps have been doubled up due to people breaking the lane. All corrected now. Me Happy!

    Thank you!

I find it strange that Garmin is not doing anything of the like as part of GC ... anyway, you're the man! :)

    Cheers,
    Seb
  • Thanks, Glad you were able to fix your file.
  • Great tool

I have been looking for a tool like this for months now, glad I eventually found this tool. Works great!
