Edit you Garmin Swim Data free online

HI,

I'm a Garmin Swim user and also a programmer. As many of you, I sometime have inaccuracies in my data. For me, it's mostly an extra lap now and then. It usually happens when swimming in a crowded lane, and I have to switch from freestyle to breaststroke to look for an opportunity to pass. As a result, distance, average speed, and maximum speed metrics will be affected. I used to wish I could just merge two lengths within Garmin Connect and get more accurate data. Since GC doesn't provide this feature (yet), I decided to make my own tool. It is working great for me, so I decided to add splitting length, changing stroke style and pool size, and added a web interface to it. It's free as long as hosting cost are reasonable. Feel free to try it and let me know what you think.

Garmin Communicator plugin is required and you'll have to be able to manually upload an activity file to Garmin Connect. I explain how to do it on the web site.

  • Many thanks, I've added a thread over on the 920 forum, hopefully Garmin can add a fix to this- in the mean time I will be more carful which buttons I press after drills!!
    Cheers

  • The editing tool is amazing and the viewer has some interesting things to look at that I really like. Could I request a "download to csv" feature or ask if you've found a good tool for doing this? I've found the Garmin Connect website deficient in comparing pace over time.

Again, thank you thank you thank you for this tool.

    Bryan.
  • There is a 'Download to csv' feature available on Garmin Connect, but depending what you want to do with the data, you'll probably need to do some cleanup and add a few formulas into your spreadsheet. You can access this feature on the activity page by clicking on the gear icon upper left, and selecting 'Export Splits to csv'. If I was to add such a feature, what parameters would you like to have and the format. Also curious about what you think is deficient about pace over time, and what king of analysis you're doing.

What was important to me is to be able to see how pace, stroke rate, and stroke count relate to each other. In the first version of GC, stroke rate wasn't even mentioned which I just couldn't understand because it is such an important part of the speed equation. In Modern GC, you only get an average stroke rate for the whole session, which is better than nothing, but not enough. I also found SWOLF to be useless, don't know if many people rely on it.
  • Hi, thank you for the response--still love your program, and thank you for the work you put in to it.

The download to excel feature in GC1 would download each lap time and stroke. In GC2 it will only download to excel each set without stroke information. I used to sort the data and compare each stroke and lap times over time and could see improvement (or not) over time. GC (either version) makes it impossible to compare lap times over time, but only set times over times, which for me is not really helpful.

I would love to be able to download the type of information in the GC2 expanded interval table that shows each lap time, pace, and stroke.

    thanks, bryan.
  • I just discovered this Viewer function. Useful and very informative. Thanks for making it.
  • BryanSwim not sure I understand, here is what GC2 provide. you get lap and interval time, pace and stroke count. What would you like that is different from this. Could you provide and example?

Interval Swim Stroke Lengths Distance Time Avg Pace Best Pace Avg SWOLF Total Strokes Avg Strokes Calories
    1 Freestyle 4 100 2:51.9 2:52 2:44 60 72 18 16
    1.1 Freestyle 1 25 :43.3 2:53 2:53 61 18 -- --
    1.2 Freestyle 1 25 :42.1 2:49 2:49 60 18 -- --
    1.3 Freestyle 1 25 :45.1 3:01 3:01 64 19 -- --
    1.4 Freestyle 1 25 :41.0 2:44 2:44 58 17 -- --
    Rest 0 0 1:01.7 --:-- 2:44 0 -- 18 --
  • what you get is perfect, and that's what i used to get from GC1 when I exported. In GC1 or GC2, now the export to csv shows me only the splits not the expanded information (below). What you got (above) is perfect.

Split Time Moving Time Distance Avg Pace Avg Moving Pace Best Pace Calories
    1 06:08.1 6:08 400 1:32 1:32 1:10 80
    2 :58.6 :00 0 --:-- 1:00 1:28 --
    3 04:06.4 4:06 200 2:03 2:03 1:56 56
    4 01:51.7 :00 0 --:-- 1:32 2:06 --
  • It's weird because I can get this format from GC2 (modern version). I've joined a picture just to make sure you know where to look for it. To the top right of activity page, gear icon. select 'Export Split to CSV' menu. If you don't get it, it means not all users are getting the same features.

  • I don't get that format. I think it's a garmin issue, because someone else just complained of the same issue in another thread. Maybe garmin support will respond to my email request.
  • I also discovered the Viewer function, and I just became addicted to in a blink!
Thank you erunnermtl, you provided a lot of useful data which was present but not put in the correct evidence by GC website
