Edit you Garmin Swim Data free online

HI,

I'm a Garmin Swim user and also a programmer. As many of you, I sometime have inaccuracies in my data. For me, it's mostly an extra lap now and then. It usually happens when swimming in a crowded lane, and I have to switch from freestyle to breaststroke to look for an opportunity to pass. As a result, distance, average speed, and maximum speed metrics will be affected. I used to wish I could just merge two lengths within Garmin Connect and get more accurate data. Since GC doesn't provide this feature (yet), I decided to make my own tool. It is working great for me, so I decided to add splitting length, changing stroke style and pool size, and added a web interface to it. It's free as long as hosting cost are reasonable. Feel free to try it and let me know what you think.

Garmin Communicator plugin is required and you'll have to be able to manually upload an activity file to Garmin Connect. I explain how to do it on the web site.

  • I've got identical "ghost length" that CyclingMarky1 describes, also using a 910xt. Recorded a phantom lap that is identical time to previous lap but shows no stroke count, and was definitely not swum. Have also made the schoolboy error of recording 2 laps at the end moving to changing room! A means to delete these laps would be great. Happy to send files.
  • Hi,

I've noticed the 'ghost length' problem in many files, and I was aware of added lengths, when you move your arms too much while resting at the wall, or forgetting to hit stop at the end of a session. I am working on allowing to delete lengths. Should be ready before the end of the month.

    Thanks

ERUNNERMTL - used your editor for the first time today..... very useful indeed. For me I had not started the timer and so missed a long warm up..... to get the distance in to the workout I just split a whole bunch of later workout warm up lengths until the distance recorded correctly.... would it be possible to address this by being able to add a whole interval(s) and then adjust the workout & moving times? Reason being is that whilst I now have the distance right the SWOLF & average 100m times look a little silly....... No idea how complex this request is but I thought I'd put it out there.... In any event it's still good work.
  • Hi,

The web site is intended to make a few edits to correct the most common problems in lap Swimming files (Extra or missing length, and wrong stroke detection). It will allow you to edit existing lengths, but not add new ones.

If you forget to start the watch and would like distance and time to be included in the session, it would be easier to edit total distance and time within Garmin Connect. On the Activity page, in the toolbar at the top, click on the pencil icon, and select 'Full Edit'.

Edit total distance and time, the speed and number of lengths will be recalculated accordingly. Swolf, and SPL (strokes per lengths) will remain the same and you get to keep recorded data as it is. I think it's better to do it this way than to add 'Fake' lengths to your session.

In fact, this tip can be used to make any adjustment you want to Activity summary as long as you don't care about individual length details.
  • Simple yet brilliant! Many thanks for finally enabling me to split and merge incorrectly recorded lengths on my FR910XT.

Just wanted to add my thanks for making this tool available. Just got a Garmin Swim and used it for the first time today. It worked really well except that my first length of a breast stroke interval was recorded as backstroke. Just took a few minutes to fix it. Really appreciate your hard work!
  • I bought a Garmin Swim this week & have used it for two workouts so far. I had incorrect data in both of them. I was frustrated & my search turned up this thread & your tool. I am floored with how awesome this tool is. It will be my go-to tool after each workout to clean up my data & get accurate reporting. Thanks for the time & effort you put into this & hopefully Garmin will take note of the need for advanced edit capabilities.
  • Thanks to all, I appreciate. Glad to see the website has helped you fix your data.

  • Hi Stéphane,
thank you for your work, it's great!
I would ask you if it's possible to split an interval, i.e. to split a 50 fs interval in two 25 fs intervals. Now it seems that I could only merge and split the lengths of the same interval.
Thank you for your precious work!!
