Garmin Connect iOS / iPhone App Issues and Crashes

There have been many report of issues with the latest version of the iOS / iPhone Garmin Connect App (v1.2.x).
(Note before the version 1.2 upgrade all worked well!!)

Since the version 1.2 upgrade people are experiencing:

(1) App Crashes Downloading Activities. When App is restarted any already downloaded activities are wiped and it starts downloading them all again - this is hitting people's download allowance and must be stressing Garmin's servers!! This is very frustrating because it means a long wait before you can download any new activities from the Garmin 510.
(2) Live track stops working most of the time.

Anyway as I am an iOS developer I have access to the crash logs so decided to dig a bit further to see what is happening for the App crashes. When the App crashes the following crash logs are produced:

Basically what that is telling me is the ConnectMobile app (assume that is the Garmin Connect App - nothing else was running at time of crash) - is using far too much memory and iOS says enough and kills it. 165418 x 4k blocks - THAT IS OVER 600mb in use by App!! So basically there is a massive memory leak in the app that needs fixing - soon please!

Happy to assist the Garmin developers or test any beta versions ... because I would like my Garmin 510 to work like it used to asap.

I am a senior network consultant for an IT computer company, my job requires a lot of investigation and research into various faults.

I have the same identical PAIN IN THE ASS FAULT !!! on my IPHONE 4S running IOS 7.0.4 with Garmin Connect 1.3 app using a GARMIN EDGE 510.

1ST download of activity each day results in a total crash after minutes of trying to download activities, has a hernia and crashes with low memory report in the Iphone diagnostics.
2nd download downloads all activities again because they appear to have deleted of the face of the planet on my IPHONE !!!
Garmin app then behaves for the ride and most of the day.

I have tried to run memory cleaning apps to increase available memory to 200 MB free.
Running only the Garmin app and nothing else at breakfast, crashed again with a low memory error.

Sounds like the app has a memory leak issue of some kind.

I usually do the 1st download during breakfast an hour before a ride to allow for the incredibly annoying CRASH.
The fault is incredibly consistent, CRASHES 1st time each day.

I have found that if you don't allow for the crash to happen and enable live track and ride, the app will usually crash, live track will stop which results in no live track monitoring by the wife while on a long ride.
Live track was the safety selling feature to justify to the wife to buy the Garmin 510.

My mates got the same fault on an IPHONE 3, different IPHONE model.
    Same identical annoying FAULT !!!

The Garmin hardware is awesome, the data is fantastic, live track safety is the major selling point.
The IPHONE APP sucks and is letting down the experience of your brilliant product.

I emailed Garmin support, received automated acknowledgement and nothing further, currently waiting patiently.

Come on GARMIN, can you please fix the IPHONE APP  . . .
    please . please . please . please . please . please . please . please . please

Garmin released a major IPHONE update for Garmin Connect 21/02/2014

I updated the app, confirmed it opened perfectly first time and downloaded activities of rides perfectly.
Livetrack crashed the app every single time.

I turned IPHONE off and on, test live track, failed.

I deleted the APP from my iphone and downloaded the APP again.
    Livetrack opened perfectly, no crashes.
I completed a big ride with no issues.

The new app runs a lot faster.Thank you Garmin for releasing the new APP.
Thank you Garmin for releasing the new app which appears to be bug free..
  • I have an 810 and am having difficulty in syncing it with my iphone. When my iphone and 810 are in proximity they recognize each other. However after a ride when I go to upload the data from my 810 it shows that that syncing is starting in the garminconnect app on my iphone but then terminates with a red bar appearing in the garminconnect app stating sync failed. I've tried reinstalling the app a few times with the same result. Any suggestions?
