Can I use my backed-up maps on Microsd card on new GPS.

Here is my problem, I had a Nuvi 50 with North America maps on it. On a recent visit to England, I purchased a microsd card with England and Ireland maps on it, so that I could find my way around.

Unfortunately the rented car I was using was broken into and the GPS was one of the items stolen. I then purchased A Garmin Nuvi 52 with English maps to replace it. I am now back in the states and have the USA maps backed up on my computer from my Nuvi 50. I would like to put them on a microsd card and use them in the Nuvi 52 I now have. After all I have paid for these maps.

Can this be done, and if so, could someone give me the instructions to do it correctly? I tried copying the files from the computer to the microsd and got the report that the Nuvi 52 GPS "Cannot unlock maps". Can someone please explain what I have to do to do it correctly. Thanks!

The Hawk.
  • No you can't. But you could call Garmin and explain. They may enable the map transfer for you given the circumstances.
  • If you don't get the answer back that you like, then CALL them. Despite the fact you understood what you wrote, they may not interpret the message correctly, so by being on the phone you'll be able to assess better if they understand your message. Even if the communication is understood correctly, then sometimes it's just a matter of who you are dealing with. So try another....... after all, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
