Uploaded Track distance differs from saved Course

Hello,

I uploaded a trail race course to my Garmin Connect account, which reported it as 17.68 miles. I then saved it as a Course, and the GC Course reports its distance as 16.8 mi. Why the difference? Isn't the saved course the same as my saved Activity?

If you examine the course closely on the map, you may see some corners got lopped off as the recorded position in the log may not be the actual point you went to on a sharp turn. Even at only 15 mph (24 kph) you are covering about 22 feet every second, so for an extreme example, if you double back on a track, you might have two successive position reports that are identical. So all the distance you traveled between them is lost to anything trying to derive your distance from the postion data, which probably is part of the issue for courses created on a map.
