Edge 500 Heart Rate Monitor stopped working now Garmin Connect

I have had my Edge for 22 months. It worked perfectly until this summber when my heart rate monito stopped working. No my Garmin Connect connection isn't recognized on my computer so I can't download any rides. Any help out there?
