Forerunner 10 runs won't upload, computer doesn't find watch, now finds memory card?

Hi guys,
I recently purchased a garmin forerunner 10, and made an account, and started uploading my runs, it worked fine and found the forerunner 10 when I connected it. but since last week when I connect the forerunner 10 it says the detected device is a 'Memory Card (F:\)' and when I click to upload activities it just says reading activities, and never progresses from there and doesn't upload. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the software but it's still doing it.
Anyone else had this, or know how to fix it?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks, Eamonn

having the same problem. have u got a solution yet????
  • I have the same problem with a Forerunner 10. The machine is Windows 7; uploads were previously working, but now aren't. The problem started, I think (not sure), when I upgraded AVG Free (anti-virus) from version 2013 to version 2014.

    Does that match your environment?

There is a thread on the AVG forums discussing this (without resolution) at http://forums.avg.com/us-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=234160

If you can see your forerunner as a drive when it's connected to your PC/mac, then try a manual upload from Garmin Connect. Browse to that drive and find the .fit file for that activity. I don't have a forerunner, but on my edge activities are in the /garmin/activities folder. Manual uploads seem to be slightly more reliable.

You might get more help in the Forerunner 10 subforum, https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?346-Forerunner-10

I have the same problem on two computers, using two different operating systems and two different anti virus, neither of which is AVG.

    >>It doesn't really SEE it as an E drive you can do anything with. If you click on the E it shows nothing and nothing shows up in windows explorer.

I'm pretty PO'd about this right now, the watch is next to useless without this capability.
  • I uninstalled the Garmin Communicator Plugin *and* the Garmin USB drivers, rebooted, then reinstalled both. This fixed the problem.

Since quite a few people seem to have reported this problem about the same time, I suspect it was introduced by a system update of some sort.

I had some luck after leaving the Forerunner plugged in for quite awhile. Eventually (say 30 minutes), it found the device. I went into the Forerunner via windows explorer and deleted most of my old runs.

That seems to have improved the issue dramatically. It also improved my upload time quite a bit. Right after I did this, I also updated the software, so the data is a bit confounded.

I tried everything else posted without any luck. Finally I thought to do a master reset:
    support.garmin.com/.../case.faces
It deletes any history and preferences you have entered, leaving your watch like new. It worked great after that. True, I lost all my previous data but I had logged pretty much all of them on mapmyrun.com anyway. I went out for a long run this morning using the Garmin and it was able to upload much more quickly than it had even before it stopped working.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks Srizner - that worked for me. I gave up using Run Keeper when that stopped recognising the device, followed later by Running Ahead - and by then even Garmin Connect wouldn't recognise it. Was infuriating. Have lost a lot of data but at least it's working again now - cheers

I'm having difficulty uploading. It doesn't recognize my activity as new and then when I try to upload a selected activity it runs and runs and runs without uploading. I deleted old runs. What's the deal?
